How do I set a ship to Patrol?

Post by Scoob »

Hey all,

This one isn't working how I expected.

I wanted to ask a squad to patrol an area. So, I set the "Patrol" default behaviour for the leader and an "Area to patrol" box appears, I select this and it just brings up a large list of ALL local stations and ships. Selecting these does nothing, clicking the map does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Also, default behaviours are weird. I mean, if I set a default behaviour as "Guard area" for example, I expect to be able to issue a move order then, when the ship arrives it'll guard the area. Why doesn't it work this simple, obvious and intuitive way?

There are all these additional commands and behaviours, but none of the combat related ones seem to work / cannot be configured.

Any assistance welcome.

For patrolling, after you click the box to assign the area, click in the map where you want them to patrol and notice in the top left of the screen it should now have a system name and an Okay or Select button, I cant remember exactly what it says and I'm at work so I cant check right now I know it works though because I've currently got a carrier and 3 destroyers on patrol in Grand Exchange.

Now, whether their response while they are patrolling is going to be an intelligent one is another question. My troops haven't run into enemies on patrol yet for me to find out.

Other questions you asked, I'm no better informed than you right now.

Thanks, I did actually get that working moments after posting lol. It didn't appear to do anything the first few times I tried, the box remained empty so I couldn't confirm the order. Still, it's working now, though I had hoped we'd have more fine control, like being able to set up patrol routes and the like. It's a bit clunky currently, but hopefully it'll be expanded on.

The first time I used Patrol didnt end well, the entire wing followed a Xenon ship through a get into Matrix. Lost the whole wing. They were patrolling Ianamus Zura.

Not to mention, they will patrol wayyyyyy outside the center, and off the ecliptic too. So they may not be close enough to engage if something does go down. I found "Defend Area" to be more useful. YMMV
