I first noticed this right after release (still on version 1.0 I think, but it may have been 1.1), when fighting a pirate Minotaur. As soon as the enemy crew bailed out, the hull took a massive amount of damage, going from being almost fully intact to < 5% condition. I thought at first that maybe it got hit by a missile that I didn't see (there was one other NPC fighter attacking it), but now I don't believe that to be the case. It's quite frequent that when an enemy pilot/crew bail out, the ship they were just in takes some really severe damage to its hull, often exploding pretty much instantly (even if I'm shooting at it with a single Pulse Laser Mk 1).
This sort of extreme damage shouldn't be happening, in my opinion, but I'm not sure if it's a bug or an intentional mechanic.
Are ships supposed to take huge hull damage when crew bails?

Well there were 2 things I assumed.
1. Ejecting always damages the vehicle.
2. They damage it just before leaving out of spite (so you lose money fixing it).
3. Then there`s the damage you may already have caused.

1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Afaik bailing destroys the ship's module upgrades, thus you don't gain too much for too little effort (balancing). This is done via explosions that also deal damage to the hull. So if the pilot that's bailing decided to bail in the last seconds when the ship's hull is around 30%, it will inadvertedly destroy the ship in the process.

I think rapatomonor nailed it, especially since only small and medium ships can eject, probably don't have separate escape modules. The cockpit is probably forceably removed, so surprised you dont have to repair it first before piloting it. I'm less happy about the non-delicate marines ripping the hull apart on L and XL ships doing hull damage lol.

I thought it could be something like that, since weapons and shields are always destroyed on small/medium ships that I capture, but I'd like for there to be a bit of a "safeguard" implemented for the hull integrity.repatomonor wrote: ↑Wed, 12.
