Back in X3, when a ship was ordered to escort another one, the escort would automatically dock to the mother-ship if possible (instead of flying next to it). Then, when the $### hits the fan, the escort would automatically un-dock and fight.
How do I do this in X4?
I have an Eclipse (fighter) and a Cerberus. The Eclipse is capable of docking on the Ceberus. When ordered to escort or defend, the Eclipse doesn't dock.

It typically does it automatically as it approaches a gate. If you assign it to the mothership and it just stays in a sector the little ship will stay on guard. But if you send it out of sector it will stop short of the gate and wait for the little guy to dock. Then it will ride like that until needed.
