How to enter docked ship on osprey

So I got the Osprey from you know where and let my nova dock on/in it. Now I want to change ship (from osprey to nova). How do I do that?
When I go to the docking area of the Osprey it's empty but in the aitlock it states that my Nova is docked (as it should be).
Don't like to have to dock both vessels and change ship on a station, if I don't have to...

It sounds like your Nova has entered the internal storage of the Osprey.

You could try Shift+D on the docking pad to see if that helps.

Or you could land on a station, recruit a Captain for the Osprey, and ask that Captain to "Work somewhere else" and select the Nova. I think you can then order the Nova Captain to fly off.

yep the nova is in storage, that's what happens if you order it to dock (on the osprey). The nova does have a captain btw.
I let the nova dock several times on the osprey but it always ends up in storage

The problem I find on stations is that most stations have multiple docking platforms and I have found myself on the opposite platform wondering around stupidly looking for my ship when it was on the other side.

An easy way I have found is to use the stations internal transport system and select the docked ship and say transport to.

Not relevant to your original post I know but still I got confused so many times when I first started.

finally it worked after a few tries more the nova did dock on the platform of the osprey

There should be a console at the platform, which you can click to bring your ship out of storage. Once it's out (you don't even have to wait, as soon as the cover opens it's lit) you can go to it using shift + D. That's how it works on stations if your ship ends up in storage.
