1.31- Small Mining ships won't help L ship

Hello there,
So I recently got myself an L mining ship and 2 s miners which are suposed to help the big ship mining to accelerate the process.
However, even if assigned to the big ship for mining, the automatic command is just to follow squadroon leader. Since this behaviour is highly illogical for mining ships assigned to a larger miner where they can dock to so this is probably a bug.
However correct me if im wrong.
