Scanning stations

When scanning stations what do the different colours the modules turn represent?

Also i have read that scanning with the spacesuit gives 100%, is there any way to get the same result with a ship?

From what i've been told, there's no reason at all to scan stations, except for the rare occasion you find a scansite
that gives you a blueprint, but blueprints spawns once in a blue moon.
