Minor Extended play glitch: Texture tearing

Post by AdmiralTigerclaw »

Let me queue this one up since it doesn't seem to be in the known list.

This may just be my system specs, but I notice that after a period of several hours, I'll encounter a graphics glitch where in the textures in menus will 'tear' and behave as if the Y axis for the texture centering is 50% offset.

To explain this in more lucid detail, imagine that text selections of each menu 'button' are a picture. When the image 'tears'. The bottom half of letters and words stick down from the top edge into the picture, the top of the words stick up from the bottom edge into the picture, and the center of the box is empty. As if everything is offset and wrapped back around through the other side. And it occurs for ALL text menu objects, making them nearly unreadable. This usually appears after 4 to 5 hours of active gaming, and may be involved with GFX card memory. As it only seems to show up after the main textures for things like background plants start loading really poorly from doing lots of inter-system traveling.

This glitch makes menus borderline unreadable, and coincide with poor graphics showings that seem permanent. My response to this event at this time is to drop what I'm doing, save, and quit. Again, I assume it's a specs issue, likely GFX card memory (since I'm pretty sure I'm minimum spec GFX card). I honestly don't mind the game playing memory catchup, but far as I can tell, if I don't 'stop and clear GFX ram', this glitch is permanent until restart. I'm not asking for or demanding a fix, I'd just like to share a data point and know if it is a known glitch.
