Collecting Loot and Drops - Improvements coming in a future build
I'm in the middle of this situation atm: https://imgur.com/qxZJ4od
I tried collecting all the spacefly eggs, unstable crystals, lodestones etc. that you see in the image to no avail. The only thing I collected remotely was energy cells.
The NPC pilots go there, "pick it up", but I cannot see them in my personal inventory (that's where they should go). I even tried with my own ship, standing very firm behind my miserable pilot.
Is there a way to collect all those goodies? And if the NPCs Do collect them somewhere, is there a way to retrieve them from them?

Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
You need to collect these player inventory items by yourself with the tractor beam.

Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
Indeed, as they are player inventory items, only the player can scoop them up. And it's probably going to stay like this at least for the time being, any other solution would need a framework to create an inventory for every npc, and constantly keep track of it (which would also need corresponding new UI panels): quite a lot of work.

Wares can be picked up by any ship with space. Inventory items have to be gathered by you personally. For ease od use, download the fly by looting mod. I would recommend changing the distance from 10k to a smaller number

Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
I'm a little curious as to what is intended here with drops, since there is the "Collect Drops" remote option.
I wonder if it would be sensible to have the remote drop collection feature disabled until you unlock teleport. That way the items can appear in the player inventory under the guise of being 'teleported' there & it doesn't break lore to just have something 'appear'.
Just a thought.

Why this remote collection of inventory items can be enabled by a MOD, but vanilla you have to spend stupendous amount of time, flying around and collecting eggs and stones yourself? *sigh*

Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
i think in the techsupport section a mod said that the items do end up in the player inventory, they just dont show up for some reason.. so since they know it, maybe it will be fixed soon? next week afterall is the first normal workweek again.
and yes, beeing in the ship does work, but it is tidious if you cant even use Seta while standing there watching your commander do it..^^

Works fine for me. I let my relief pilot fly, set orders to collect drops, and containers disappear from the map as she flies by.kyrah wrote: ↑Thu, 11. Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
Yes they disappear - but into the NPC pilot's inventory where you cannot access them and not into yours! Loose talk of drops and containers doesn't really help though, they are handled differently whether inventory items or cargobay wares, and only the latter can usefully be collected by NPC pilots of yours as stated many times above (all this referring to vanilla of course).

Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
Well, its awfully weird then, because this is the only method I use to pick up anything, and I've got a personal inventory chalk full of stuff. I haven't purchased it, so it had to come from somewhere.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Thu, 11. Re: Collecting Loot and Drops
You must have run over them while you were piloting yourself then, such as when fighting - or you were perhaps not always vanilla. The devs confirm what I said above and and that vanilla inventory handling and collecting improvements are scheduled for a future build sometime after 2.21.
