Scanning Station - Better but could be improved more

Post by Loltak »

Hi all,

On X-R I mostly scan all the station, that not the most enjoying action but I don't know I can let a station un-scanned :D

I think the process is slightly improved in X4-F as the module are easier to scan but IMHO:
• Distance and angle are still a bit short/tight. On X-R I use ISE-Balanced Edition with lowered version
• Color of module are now too light (compare to X-R)

Moreover, there might be a bug as some colored modules does not seem to keep there color, this make harder to know what you have already scanner.

To be honest I'm currently make a pause on scanning station, there is so much of them :o :)

What yours feedback on that feature?

Bye

Is there any point to scanning them? There are missions that ask you to, but you only need to scan one station or module, and for stations you normally don't have to scan the whole thing. It's useful to find data leaks, but that's not really tied to scanning. I guess in Rebirth you got access to more/better trade deals from scanning (maybe? I haven't played rebirth since launch), but that mechanic has been removed from X4 as far as I know.

the only improvement i see over XR is that you no longer have to hunt for a specific spot to scan it. and except for that it is worse in every way. in XR it gave you the storage levels of the modules scanned and i think it even gave you production time not sure about that. in X4 it seems utterly pointless if there is a benefit i haven't found what it is. it is also unnecessarily difficult the colors are hart to see but there is a mod for that. and also dificult to keep track of in XR it was right on your map the scanning status of every module if and how far it was scanned. in X4 all i have found it the total information unlocked on the ships info screen.

As you write it permit to track the different data link or mission. As far as I found the data link permits some discount and you can earn some modules blueprint.

Also if I not wrong, scanning most of the station permits to fill the panel "Logical overview" with the workflow of the production and other information.
For now I can say how much these information are useful.

It's depend of the type of the module.
I can't give you the relation, I does not remember exactly the color and can't start my game (not due to bug ;) )

How exactly do I scan a station? I use SHIFT+2 and have flown around the starting station but still stuck at 75% so how do I know which parts I've scanned and which parts need scanning?

certain parts(habitation, defense and docks) need to be scanned with the space suit. or a better scanner is there something better than the police scanner if it exists i haven't found anything better.

Is a police scanner better than a regular one? The description only says it's good for scanning ships so it is any good at scanning stations?

I don't know.
The EVA is faster than the ship one but doing a whole station with it is a bit tedious

Count me in the team who didn't caught yet the logic behind (flashy) colors used during station scan (testing my Hotas setting, no really playing yet)...

It's to ease the search of a specific module on a already scanned station.
However you have to remember the color relation and due to the color of the texture itself it's not so easy to see.
Lot of if.
It's possible to check/learn the color in the map view; when select a particular module (scanned) it is colored with the right color.

Red : defence
Cyan : storage
Yellow/dock : Production
Blue : habitation
white: connection (the one I thought it bugs) or unscanned module
