Hi guys, I cannot remember if I completed the Boarding ships tutorial, but I need a little help.
I want to level my Marines to level 3 Boarding skill, but I am currently allied with Argon and Antigone and I want to ally with Teladi. What I want to enquire is, is there a boarding enemy ship with crew tutorial, like a YouTube video? Or could someone tell me the steps to initiate boarding of an Enemy Ship that has crew? I am currently in a Nova fighter with 1 level 0 Marines, is that enough to get the job done? I think not so I need some insight and advise as to what Ship I need to be a relatively successful at boarding and then claiming Enemy Ships with crew.
Is there any way to not start war with neutral or allied factions to board and claim their ships? Is there any recommended hunting ground? I read somewhere that neutral sectors might not incur hostile relations, but what are the neutral sectors and has anyone tried with success to board and claim ships in neutral sectors without getting negative relations?
Still noob to the game, thanks for any help.

Try looking here for boarding advice

As for faction relations, they don’t start getting hostile until around -10 or so, so you can steal ships from anyone well above that without much worry. Any nearby ships of the same faction will go hostile when you start your attack, but it’s only temporary. Try finding ships in isolated areas, or where there are no other faction ships around.

So can you board and steal ships from a certain faction, then do missions for that faction before it reaches - 10 relation to sort of maintain the peace?
Which sectors are considered neutral space?

Re: Boarding Enemy Ships that have a crew?
I tried experimenting boarding a Argon Mining Ship in Nopelios Fortune II sector. What happened is my faction reputation keeps decreasing everytime I destroy a laser mine from the ship, and I only had 3 Marines on my Nova Fighter. I destroyed all the turret and engines for the ship, but did not manage to get all the crew to jump ship. So I tried boarding with my 3 Marines and the attempt failed.
So basically you will lose a lot of reputation if you tried to board Neutral or Allied L or XL ships. I tried for 1.5 hours trying to find a suitable ship in a Neutral sector. Trying to get level 3 for a Marine needs a lot of time and effort, so I suggest maybe to shorten the process? Now we cannot hire NPC X or XL ship crew, but maybe devs can consider making Space Station Personnel offer better skill stats?
I feel abit zoned out from this latest experiment. I am doing this to get a level 3 Marine but a 100K+ reward mission really does not make it worth its while...

Yes, doing missions will increase rep, as will any trades you do with their stations, either through auto-traders/miners, or manual trades.
I believe neutral sectors are the ones with grey borders.
As for the rep loss thing on turret destruction, there is a difference between faction rep and ship rep. I think you may only lose ship rep on turret destruction, but laser towers will cost you faction rep. (Not 100% sure on this, but I think it’s how it works). Next time you try it, check your faction rep both before and after. I captured a Teladi station builder, which involved a lot of turret destruction as they kept rebuilding them (needed to make an extra trip for more marines, took a while), and an Argon Behemoth, again, lots of turret destruction, and the actual hit to my faction rep was minimal.
I also did a laser tower destruction mission a while back, and the hit to my rep with the HAT was significant.
