[Mod] CrystalFinder

Post by Shuruna »

Image

DESCRIPTION
The CrystalFinder supports the pilot in an optical way to find crystals.

FEATURES
Adds glow around crystals, so you can find them more easily, the color is the same as the crystal itself. You don't need to search for sparkles anymore, you can just fly around and harvest the crystals.

COMPATIBILITY
As long as no other mods change something about the crystals there should be no problems.

HOW TO INSTALL
Just paste the "CrystalFinder" folder to the "extensions" folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X4 Foundations\extensions). Make sure the mod is activated in the main menu of X4.

HOW TO DEINSTALL
Delete the "CrystalFinder" folder

CHANGELOG
Version 1.10
  • Fixed: Some missing language strings that caused to crash the game or didn't load the mod properly.
  • Fixed: The size of the sparkle texture was too big.
Version 1.20
  • Refactored: Cleaned up the whole project to optimize the compatibility.
  • Updated: Adjusted the colors of the crystals to enhance the optical look.

Cool looks great, i think this is a little cheaty, but maybe fine if it was toned down a bit. Will it work with glow options turned off?

Thank you :)
Sure it makes harvesting crystals a lot easier, but you need still fly near an asteroid to see the light, you will not see all asteroids glow from 100 kilometers away. Yes, it works with the glow option off.

So I have to pay Nexus mods in order to try your mod ? Not going to happen. Is there any other way to download?

Nexus is, always has been and always will be completely free. Everyone here is using it and we always have been. You can be a supporter to have more benefits, but that doesn't change much.

I like Nexus too, i think it's very easy for the player to download mods there, and it gives the mod creator some nice tools. But anyway, I added a mirror. :D

BTW Shuruna, just commented on your mod on the nexus, there's very important info that's not yet known by everyone, which is likely what was causing issues to some of your downloaders. Copying the info here as well:

1) Mods that add totally new gamecontent need to be in .cat files and not loose files, otherwise the game will crash at launch *for Win7 users* when installed in the root directory as intended.

2) Mods need to have a content.xml with all the language ids specified, or the game will crash at launch on any non-english account.

3) The aforementioned crashes don't happen when you install mods under /documents, but mods installed under /documents, while being seen by the game interface, *DO NOT WORK AS INTENDED IN GAME*.

I saw your comment and really appreciate it. Already added the missing language strings, i will upload it as soon as possible. :)

Is there any way you could increase the visibility range of the glow? As someone with particularly bad eyesight, i find crystal hunting nearly impossible, and having to be right ontop of them to get the glow kinda defeats the purpose for me sadly.

The problem is, some want it more visible and a higher range and for other is it already cheating. For the performance, my computer is way under the requirements, but it doesn't change the performance for me noticeably.

I think I will create a additional version with higher range. :)

I already have heard of that problem, still figuring out the reason, I clean the project up at the moment and hope if there are any compatibility issues, that they are gone afterwards.

i don't know if it is related but i still want to mention it. for some reason it seems that now that i uninstalled you mod i have a problem finding crystals in general. when i did find some i noticed that they often only had a very small part exposed the rest was inside the asteroid. and i never had that before that before at least no that i remember. but again not sure if related but maybe the reason why i and some other cant see the crystals is because they are inside the asteroid.

I had this behaviour since the launch of the game, this is one reason for creating this mod, I had a few times where I fly to an asteroid and don't find the crystal anymore, with the light around it's easier.

I've not had any issues using this mod, and it really helps finding crystals better. In fact the best place to mine for crystals and finding Burnite (250,000 credits each) is Grand Exchange IV
