1.21 BUG Escort ships race away from ship in their charge

Escort fighters told to defend trade ships do not follow but instead race off to the trade destination, leaving the trade ships to get jumped mid route. Not sure if that was intended but I assumed that escorts should stay with the ships being escorted

i lose med trade ships constantly to single pirate fighters because my escort of 3 buzzards are sitting at the traders destination instead of following it.

Tried different formations, nothing works. Under "Behaviour" you can only set the formation on the lead ship, escorts won't take over the setting and you can't manually set it either.
