Maybe a dumb question but... pilots flying your ship...

Post by Reactor »

So I’ve just started and finally figured out how to hire someone to fly my ship. But, after getting them in the seat, how do I actually direct them to do something? I would’ve thought the context menu or map would’ve worked somehow, but I can’t seem to figure it out!

Can someone help poor old me? :)

Go to the map.

Select your ship by clicking on it.

Right click something for a context order menu, or go to information and go to the second tab, and set up default orders.

map, 2nd icon down on the left (shift + P works too), find your ship, right click, information, then at the top there are 2 tabs, 2nd tab, go to the default behavior, set default behavior, select dock and wait, the destination, pick your destination, then confirm.

One day I hop they bring back the right click the ship and you can then tell it 'dock at' like in x3...but well...for now we do it the 30 step method.

You've been doing it the hard way in X4:F, see my post above.

well if I right click my ship, I have Orders: remove all orders....or I can go to information to get to where the default orders are, on the 2nd tab, which won't show if I was last on the first tab.

This is currently one of the things that does annoy me that I'm hoping will eventually be fixed. Most everything takes a lot of steps to do, if not for the fact I love the game I'd have given up and waited 3 months for maybe a bit less cludgy interface.

No, left click your ship to select it, and then right click elsewhere to get a context menu for your ship's interactions. For example, if you right click a station, you can tell your ship to dock.

You may still have to delete your other orders temporarily or your ship will Dock, then just talke off again immediately. I know when I ordered it, he docked but before I could get in, he would take off. In the end I just cancelled all his orders except for docking!

Finally, I got, "Waiting for your permission to take off!" or similar.

Still getting used to this system.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

If you want to see what orders are queued so you can delete them selectively, Select your ship on the map, then go to information. At the top are two boxes, and click the right one. It'll show a list of current orders.

These may be covered in the map tutorials, but I can never get them to complete, so here are a couple random tips for giving orders with the map:

You can hold shift and drag the LMB to select a group of ships on the map (it took me far longer than I care to admit to realize that). You can also hold shift or Ctrl when selecting from the object list / My Property list to select multiple ships.

If you select a ship and then hold the left Ctrl button, right clicking will make the ship immediately queue the default action (rather than bringing up the right-click context menu). This is especially useful for quickly queuing up a lot of move orders when mapping out sectors. You can determine what the default action will be based upon the cursor icon shown while holding Ctrl (in general, it'll "move" for empty space, "attack" for enemies, etc.).
