Got a bit of money, now what?

Post by DeuxAlpha »

Hello!

I am enjoying the game quite a bit. A couple of bugs here or there, a few things that are hard to grasp, but overall a solid experience.

I've had a blast working my way up, making enough to buy a transporter, carrying wares from here to there, buying a second one, making several millions, buying more, etc., but now what?

I am at the point where I bought a Scout that I fly in personally to explore and whatnot, which is fun, and have a couple of traders and miners out and about that give me a steady income.

However, I don't really feel like buying a new transporter every couple of millions to 'just add to the fleet' that will make me more money. I feel like that will get mundane quite quickly, especially since you still have to go through each ship, assign their default behaviors, loadout (I know you can save loadouts, but you still need to go through each ship), etc.

I feel like I have come to this point before in TC and AP, but I thought it was due to the trading behavior being more tedious, but here it actually works quite well. I just don't feel like going through the same process a dozen times over before I can start building meaningful factories, and I don't want to just let it play in the background to wait until it has made me a whole lot of money.

What do you guys usually do mid-game to keep the experience fresh and avoid it becoming too much of a grind?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hello,
Have you tried starting the Boron scientist/player HQ plot? If you like trading that will give you your own base, where you can build docking platforms for your ships.
To find the plot take a small ship, turn on scanner mode (Shift + 2) and scan bases, any base will do. Also when running data leak repair missions, same thing.
There are two sources of a signal, one is a device attached to the base (the data leak), but the other is a shimmering ball of sparks that just hangs out there in space, next to a base. Fly into that (in your ship, not in your space suit), all the way in, then press F to start the conversation.
Sometimes it's just someone who wants to get off the base (passenger mission), but one of those is for the Boron scientist.

You can also try asteroid mining, buy a couple of resource probes and deploy them in areas with red hexagons on the map (asteroid fields). Look for high yield areas, then you can get a mining ship and make credits that way.
Good luck,

Joe
