Cruise speed max speed or nothing

Post by omatkoicorko »

hi,

i think this is one of biggest mistakes. i mean, we can go with max speed or just disable it. so making any escort missions or chasing enemy is really harder than it should be.

not to mention AI issue when defending ship is faster than trader, so it will go with max speed to destination point and wait there for trader, so how exactly he is defending trader? :> this should be changed and very very quickly.

You can buy different engines when you outfit a ship. Try fitting engines to traders and escorts with a very similar travel drive speed? Some of them are vastly different.

Hi there,

There was a big discussion about travel speed, lots of opinions. The AI does need to be improved in the sense it needs to stay with the ship its defending and if it is in a wing or just assigned then both ships should only go the maximum travel speed as the slowest ship.

use shift-x to match speed. in normal flight it acts like a toggle in travel mod you need to keep it pressed apparently.

i know, but its workaround, not solution, and this mechanic is broken. they clearly didnt think about it. also engines are one thing as ships them self have speed limits. so you need to use specific ship with specific engines to make you idea worth.

yeah, activate deactivate activate deactivate... my point, it shouldnt be like that.

look i love X series and i want it to be better. but with such kind of issues its quite a far from being really good game. and there is a plenty of things that they didnt think about.

Didn't realise this worked for travel mode, thanks for the tip.

Just wish AI ships would travel in sync together when defending or following.

really they don't? damn that's one reason i stopped playing rebirth in 3.1 since fleet behavior wasn't a thing. i hoped they fixed that and the ability to match speed really had my hopes up. i so hope this is a bug.

Yeah I watched one get further and further away when I was testing the follow command. Think I have a screenshot somewhere. I don't think it's a bug, I think it's an oversight really, doesn't seem like they have thought about the follow commands when ships have different engines. Hope it will be fixed. Doesn't seem like a difficult problem, just make the wing go the same travel speed as the slowest ship and nobody will lag behind or get too far ahead.

yes take the slowest speed and have everyone start at the same time in the same direction. also formation flight in travel speed should be hard to do, but i don't know how its implemented so i can't imply anything. i just hope it gets added. was a shame what your fleets in rebirth arrive one by one = anticlimactic and they just get shredded.
