Old content rediscovered?
I was just wondering, if there will ever be a chance of the older games being brought back as a histories type DLC, as there are lot of newcomers to the X series due to X4, and them only knowing of these types of games from elite dangerous and the like, most of these dont know any of the background of any of the races, thier original XBTF turmoils, or the stories of Nathan R Gunn or the X Shuttle pilot who's name escapes my right this moment, as well as the pilot from X2/X3. This new engine feels like it would revitalise those stories, and make them playable without the minigames which originally turned people off from the story.

lolz, that will be awkward.
As it all started with the Terrans populating the galaxy with the jump gate network they researched and how they used the AGI to automate the building, it would be a bit hard to explain how they all got cut off and the X universe was only rediscovered by the R.Gun first and then with an experimental jump drive that started the whole series ....
When egosoft seem to have decided that centuries in the future there are no jump drives anymore.

The Terrans didn't build the Jumpgate network, they discovered it. The Terraformers weren't meant to build jumpgates, they were meant to terraform planets.Lyth wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Dec 18, 11:21 lolz, that will be awkward.

THe Xperimental Shuttle was reverse-engineered from a Xenon point-to-point jumpdrive found on a Xenon ship that wandered into the Solar System.
At least get your lore straight.
But yes, we have yet to get an explanation as to why jumpdrives were suddenly abandoned, especially being so prevalent in the previous game.

Or you could discover all the datavaults in game and piece together the past this way (each datavault adds one line in the timeline section next to the encyclopedia)...

By that you mean actual REBOOT of previous games?
Yeah, I also thought of that. In fact, I'm not sure why X Rebirth wasn't a Reboot of X-Beyond the Frontier. The single player ship would have slid a lot better then, too.
Although, that would have required more than 4 star systems at launch, lore-friendly-ly 54 to be exact.

To be fair, X4 does feel like X-Tension. Eerily similar in fact.

I'm pretty sure the justification for why this section of the galaxy doesn't have Jump Drives is all the infrastructure to make them was destroyed/lost in the chaos/scrapped due to lack of resources and no one knows how to recreate it anymore.
Or you can go with "Because the devs were tired of trying to make the mechanic work with their cool new systems and wrote it out"

if we were getting old content, I'd love for the left and right monitors from X2 to make a comeback

No in-universe explanation yet. But that happened to SETA, so it's not impossible, although very unlikely.Solflame wrote: ↑Thu, 6. It should rather go along the lines of "The gates have been tempered with again recently, rendering the frequency between the Gates and the Jumpdrives impossible to match.
