The main problem of the series is that your empire becomes useless once you acquire it. No viable long term competitor or enemy to fight. Granted, it can take a long while until you amass all the juicy complexes and battleships, but still.
Litcube's Universe actually fixed that with the included OCV and Phanon Corporation factions. So, is there anything like that in vanilla X4? X4 doesn't seem to have a long overarching main story, so that issue becomes even more noticable.
Is the main weakness of the unmodded X games fixed in any way in X4?

Sadly, in X4 the problem is currently worse, as it’s cap ships are rather small and pathetic, there’s very little in the universe you can’t kill in your starting elite.
Seriously.. if you had 50 mil worth of military assets, You’d be the undisputed ruler of the known universe.

It doesn't work now. But it looks like after patching it could be good. And after war mods it could be incredible because of dynamics in this system. Everything here is dynamic. It just have to work in the first place

They said there's safeguards in place that prevent you from completely wiping out factions though, so no, there's no LU style enemies you actually try to eliminate.
I'd expect this to be modded in pretty quick though, with the new faction/war systems.
