Hey all,
I guess I must be missing something obvious, but how to I find new paint mods in-game?
I've captured ships with different paint mods, like the digital camo one I particularly like, and I thought that meant I'd "learnt" it, as it showed up in my paint mods list. However, it was only for the ship that had it originally and, once I overwrote it while playing around, it vanished from the list. I've had a couple of alternate paint jobs do this.
Interestingly, at one point, I had THREE paint jobs available to me in the paint screen, now I just have one for most ships. Though my captured Ides Vanguard still shows two, Default and "Origin Unknown" which is still applied to it.
What am I missing here?

Ship Paint mods, how to obtain?

Re: Ship Paint mods, how to obtain?
Paint mods - except for the two bonus content ones from the collector's edition - can't be normally obtained in game. As you have seen, they actually are NPC paintjobs meant to distinguish their factions. You see them in your list because you "have" the paintjob that's actually installed on your capped ship, but when a paintjob is changed, the previous one is lost.
You can however get them via savefile editing, or via mod: there's already a mod out that lets you buy them at station traders: https://www.nexusmods.com/x4foundations/mods/37.

Thanks for the reply. I've not actually done the thing to access my CE paint job yet lol.Kadatherion wrote: ↑Wed, 5. So, we have a screen for modifying our ships paint jobs, but there's no way to obtain paint jobs in game? That's silly! I was looking forward to customising my fleet. Sure, I can activate my CE paint jobs and do it, but I'd like to be able to pick from ALL available ones.
Thanks for the link, though I'm not going to start playing with mods just yet. I'll wait until things are a bit more patched first, don't want to muddy the waters when it come to submitting bug reports.

Re: Ship Paint mods, how to obtain?
Yeah, it would look like yet another feature that came out severely underdeveloped at launch: the system is still there, but it's pretty much pointless as of right now, if not to apply the 2 paintjobs from the bonus content or to revert an ugly npc capped ship to your player default skin. Which means, however, it's going to be rather quick and easy for Egosoft to add new - and this time legitimately obtainable - paint mods in the future, once the major bugs are addressed and their attention can move on adding new content.

I do think this feature has great potential, though it does appear that it needs to be finished first. I'll look forward to being able to paint my fleet in a future update.

I'm a big believer that they will be obtain in a few ways down the road through maybe some sort of event type content in the game. One the methods I also think their going be obtained is in Venture Missions once that content comes out. No ETA of course I assume a bit away for bug fixing first.

Yeah, it's cool. It's far more important they they concentrate on bug fixing, polishing certain features etc. rather than worrying about paint jobs.
