Hi folks,
so I unlocked the Player HQ yesterday and although I like the station's looks I don't like the way research is currently implemented in the game. This may have been brought up before but please have mercy since it really annoys me, so here's a possible rehearsal or deja vu.
Accessing a way to research things and blueprints in itself is a cool game mechanic, make no mistake. But especially when compared to the craftimg system, research is hilariously superficially represented. The research tree is laid out clearly from the very beginning so you see what you get by researching the various tiers. So far, so good. But what I find absurd is that each and every type of research projects takes exactly ten minutes to complete. What's more, you don't even need any materials or resources to do the job. Basically it's just a timesink you can do afk in a row while preparing a soup or coffee or cleaning the house. Is that it?
I mean, building a decently sized starship from scratch takes 5 minutes, although it's automated. The time relation to researching a mighty and strangely alien technology like teleportation only takes twice the time to build a freighter, plus you don't need stuff to complete it? Come on!
For a First Aid Kit at the crafting station I still need needles, bandages and sedatives. In the 30th century, you need to fly around and buy components to a medical kit I have in my car in 2018?
Crafting a First Aid Kit is more complex than researching teleportation? This is absolutely flabbergasting.
I know, the damage is done and people might say "Well, don't do it then." But that's beside the point. I see it as an opportunity wasted to present meaningful long-term gameplay by requiring research to have strange and rare components, take huge amounts of time (yeah, I know: SETA!) and to provide "end game" or edge bonuses to extreme situations that may or may not happen in the game now or later. Examples come into mind like fleet bonuses, satellite range, trade discounts and the like.
As research is implemented now, it's just click-a-di-click and be done with it. That's a shame.
Thanks for reading and staying civil,
Andrew

You need to follow the "Boron scientist" mission chain. I found it started from one of the red fuzzy signals around a station in Argon Prime which I had to scan in station scan mode, then press F to talk to the mysterious Boron scientist. I was led there quite early by picking up a random station mission that asked me to scan another station, then I found the red signal while I was scanning. Mine was in Argon Prime but I suspect it can be found anywhere when you haven't yet accepted it.

You can unlock the PHQ literally 10 minutes into a fresh start. Scan some data leaks until you find the boron dude, do what he asks and you get the PHQ. Don't get your hopes up though, it does literally nothing other than unlocking reseach... or rather a placeholder for it.

I 100% agree with the OP on this.. i was SHOCKED to see that there were no requirments especially since the Boron told us that each one would take more requirments than the next... My guess, they didnt implement the requirments yet just like not listing anything in the encyclopedia. The game was simply sent unfinished.
