Better to have re-made an earlier game.

Post by Gupster »

Egosoft should have redone X3 Albion prelude or X3 Terran conflict with fantastic up to date graphics, those games where amazing, it is clear that although this company wanted to try something new, it is really only worth doing if it can be done well with a game that works technically.

As a musician there are pieces that i can perform at virtuoso level but with mistakes, ie, not fully finished yet, and other virtuoso pieces that i know and can play at a really good standard, it comes down to the fact that in music performance it is better to play something slightly less comlex exceptionally well than to play something you are not fully comfortable with yet and perform sub par. This also rings true with computer games, they try to make something too complex every time but they do not do it well, better to have re made something that was a real gem and added less compex stuff to it than fail with another bug ridden game.

Egosoft used to make great games and they had a formula that had won them praise across the community, it is a great shame that they have attempted something new but have not quite got it working properly and put it out as a finished product, it could have gone to early acsess.

What fans of the series wanted was really an up to date version of Albion Prelude or Terran conflict.

Highly disagree. X4: Foundations is, while buggy, an excellent start to a new game in the X series and they've already pushed quite a few major bug fixes.

Given time I think it will be worthy X3 replacement, especially with mods.

I am a bit bummed on ship sizes and lack of massive ships, also most of the warships look like crap, the freighters and miners however are actually quite awesome and far better then x3.

I think you almost have to look at this as a reboot of the series in a sense ( a proper one). X4 is what X-BtF was... I suspect that with their current development we won't need to wait till x6 for an x3 size universe, ship count, and weapon variety... it will all end up coming with DLC.

We will probably see the gates to Kingdoms End rediscovered in a boron DLC.

The Terrans may show up again with their own DLC, and access to Earth may come as well.

The split will have their own DLC as well I'm sure.

With each expansion, the universe will probably get bigger, and my hope is to see more ships added to the game.

If we wanted x4 to be a bigger version of x3 right off the hop, with all the updated features in x4, we wouldn't have gotten x4 for another 10 years... the idea with the current x4 is to set up the proper framework to give us the x3 replacement the community has always wanted.

It think its really fair if anyone wants to compare x4 with any other x you can only do it in its 1.0 state it came out

So lets see x3 reunion 1.0, playable and content full bug free?
not going to include x3tc and ap bc they are extensions to x3reunion

and I don't have to mention rebirth hehehe...

to conclude there release state sucks, there patching state is epic
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

I also disagree. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean everyone else does. The basebof this game is pretty much what I expectes from a worthy successor to X3.

Also, X5 is going to be nuts I tell you what.

They didn't need too. Because all that is needed to be done is have combat focused missions and sectors full of enemy ships (like in TC). But somehow they screwed that up despite the fact they did it in past games. So, what, did they just not even look at the past X games and wing it? Did the devs somehow lose sight of the gameplay itself and get too focused on the immersion? :gruebel:

Hey, I would pay good money for AP remade but with Rebirth boarding. Not exactly expecting this to happen though

Not saying that this is not a solid game, or at very least a solid base to expand.

Hopefully after a month all these threads will disappear and we'll be left with useful topics instead.

If you call calling the game out for lacking good content useless then you're the one that's not useful.

they seem to have lost sight of many things. one such seem to be the docking through a landing pad and not through the middle of the station :D

Nah, I don't want to see another remake of a game that I already own. While X3 is great, I also find X4 to be a good platform to build on and to create a new iteration of the X series that, if done right, eventually can be as good as or even better than X3. Time will tell if that is going to happen.

I think you mean "To be as good a platform as the X3 games to begin with before it even has a chance to improve from there."

... My question is why. why are we waiting for a NEW X game to get as good as a PAST X game? There's just no excuse for it IMO. Xcom 2 takes Xcom 1 and improves it with keeping most of Xcom 1. X4 takes X3 and... leaves out half of the past X games? Which were proven to work and be enjoyed by so many I'll add.

To be fair X3 wasn't even close to what it has become over the years. And now that we have X4 I can see that gameplay-wise there is room for improvement (imho that has not been the case with X Rebirth).

My personal opinion why a new game is better than an old one redone: You have the chance to try something new that might evolve into an overall improvement. You can tell a new story. You can bring in new stuff (ships, weapons, factions, goods, places...). In general I guess as a game developer, designer and whatnot you are more open minded towards something new. A remake of X3 with just better graphics and slight improvements here and there, sure it would keep me playing for some time and no doubt there would be wow moments here and there, but eventually I'd realize that it is just the old game and I guess I'd quit relatively fast.

Quoted for truth. Im liking X4 so far. They just need to fix a few things and get the AI more aggressive.

Because its a new engine and they had to reprogram and remodel most of it all from scratch? Xcoms developers have WAY more money to work with and a larger team as well.

I would like for them to update the Graphics in X3AP. Maybe add new cockpit models that fit the ships. Kinda like the way they did with Skyrim and Skyrim Special edition cause so many people still play the X3AP stuff with mods. That said I am glad they put out X4 and I think given a little time they will have all the startup bugs nailed. And I think we can trust them to build addons that will add a lot more sectors and ships into the game just as they did with X3 Terran Conflict and X3 Albion Prelude. I know a lot of us who played the X games for years had problems getting into Rebirth.
I have it but never played it very much. I am liking X4 a lot better even though trying to get my HOTAS setup is still kinda twitchy.

Did you play TC? It added a lot that wasn't in the other X3 games (tons of random missions for one).

In any event you can't have the new stuff without the old. If you make a FPS then you make exactly that. You can do new things with each FPS but you don't go removing/gutting/replacing the core mechanics unless you're going for something VERY specific.

X4, while aiming for a certain immersion specific, never changed its course away from those core mechanics. If anything the REVERSE was promised. Mainly the whole combat/war/action thing, but perhaps other things too. I'm mainly focused on the action part of it all. And that is lacking. Of which was promised to be present in spades. I see every other X game doing that better. I see this core game mechanic being absent. I see combat focused missions in TC. I see it absent in X4. I see this VERY enjoyable thing enjoyed by so many not being enjoyed when it's been proven to work and had no reason to be absent (technically lacking) in a new game. What's worse is that we HAVE random missions and NONE are combat focused.

It's not that the new isn't welcome. It is. It's that the old isn't. If X4 (and 3) was a FPS then they took out the S. After it was promised. If "Taking out combat mechanics" is a "new step towards actions" then they failed. Some people have over 50 hours with very little happening. In TC I can make it happen in a minute. Add the new but keep the old. Everyone wins. It doesn't take a genius to know that if you rely only on slowly building ships a player can easily exploit this. Spawning enemies through missions (random ones) is needed to keep the balance. Player doing well? TC adapts. X4? Well... we can't even get a chance too because of so little happening I suppose. It's not fun. Anything but. I don't have to try something new to know how boring it will be without the action remaining consistent.
