Station building mission question

So I just did a station building mission for the first time (I had been a bit scared off because people seemed to be having trouble with them). It worked without any difficulties, and there is now a shiny new defense station in True Sight. However, unlike the X3 station building missions, it appears I retained control of the new station an plot after the mission completed, which was unexpected. Is this a bug?

Regardless, I don't really want these junky and poorly located defense stations, is there some way to sell them? Should I just dismantle them (I'm not sure how to do this, but I think it can be done)? Leave them and assume that eventually Xenon/Khaak/Pirates will blow them up for me?

In Rebirth you also kept the station for yourself after finishing the mission. You could take a look at what wares are missing in the sector and expand the station to make it produce some goods.
