I bought an engineer and followed her to see if she`d go to my ship. She did and went into the back. I wasn`t sure what she`d do, but I hoped she`d repair my ship if it got damaged.
Well several fights and a long while later, I noticed she hasn`t done anything. I have a little damage to my hull, but that`s not repaired even a little bit. Her experience star rating hasn`t increased at all. She just sits there in my ship being useless and taking my money. She`s probably fat now. I don`t hire anyone who doesn`t do their bit.
So, unless someone can tell me what is the use of this engineer, she is going to fired very, very soon...
Also how do I find a captain willing to be hired?
How are engineers useful.. also...

1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

If the Engineer is assigned to the Servicecrew of the ship in the shipdetails it should be able to repair the ship up to a percentage which I think depends on the skill level of the service crew. I got a Hermes damaged to 40% hull and my servicecrew(20 people) managed to repair it back to 84%.

Several methods that I've found work (not in-game right now to get exact steps):Socratatus wrote: ↑Tue, 4. Dec 18, 09:38 I bought an engineer and followed her to see if she`d go to my ship. - Talk to any "Crewmen" at a station when you've docked and gotten out of your ship. Hire them, then use your Property Manager -> Personnel to find the ship and "Promote" them to Captain.
- Go to an Equipment Dock/Wharf/Shipyard and modify your ship, adding Crew. You can then "Promote" one of them to Captain from your Property Manager -> Personnel for the ship.
