Just Inherited My First Medium Freighter...

Post by Slamdance_Kozmopolis »

From a VERY recently deceased Paranid who's name escapes me... I spilled coffee on the contract, and I can't read the name. Anyway, it's a Hermes Sentinel captained by a former marine and seat moistener who's name I don't recall either. So, ye captains of commerce, pray tell an old pirate how to best put his new prize to use!

Galaxy auto-trading? What settings?

The core sectors (ie Argon Prime) are great if you only have one trader, it won't matter if you use Galaxy Trade or not to begin with near the start of your game, as the best opportunities are in those systems until you have more traders.

More stations = More opportunities for profit though.

Set to galaxy if you just want to forget about him.

Auto-Trading seems abit hit and miss at the moment, Auto-Mining will give you the most stable results from what I have seen if you want guaranteed credits.
Take it easy, If you can't - Take it by force.

I've had a bad experience with trading. The AI will buy enough product to fill their hold, but most buy orders are for very small amounts. If you don't have most if not the whole known universe explored your trader will eventually get stuck with a full cargo hold of various materials they can't sell and will just dawdle through the last sector they stopped in.

So sell it, is my advice.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll set her loose in Argon Prime. I'm not too fussed about trading. The ship was free. I'm sure she'll pay for her refit eventually. In the meantime, I need to go create more salvageable ships...

Drop satellites, they make a huge difference to atuo-trading.

I think where most people go wrong - as did I - is to set freighters to trade without giving them access to live prices!

Yeah definitely an old X3 trick.

Obviously this is my first X4 play-though (35hrs so far), but I saw frequency and size of trades increase dramatically after I dropped ~25 satellites to cover Argon and Teladi sectors.

I just bought the cheap and fast scout, loaded it up and set each drop manually so the placement was sound.

I do think I read that once you reach a very high standing with a faction they give you live prices anyway.
