Quick Questions for Someone New to the Series: Docking ships with bigger ships

So, I'm wanting to get a mining carrier for my mining ships. I was going to buy a Magnetar Vanguard and was wanting to dock my M size mining ships with it to increase efficacy and the rate of credit inflow.

First, Can I dock them at my mining carrier? If so, can I set up auto-orders for the Vanguard to fly to the specified area, release my M ships, have them mine, and then redock and go and sell the ore?

Second, is it worth it? Would I make more money in the long run if I did this?

The buy page on the shipyard will tell you how many S and M type ships it can hold. I think you can do that. Set them to mine for the carrier and set the carrier on automine. It *should* work, I haven't tried it myself though.
