I am the largest determent to the economy
I have come to the conclusion that i am the worst thing for the economy and my ships. I have banished myself to Heretics end so that the games magical physios will let me ships dock and fly and trade without having to worry about collision. If i stand on the bridge of my ship as it goes about its business it begins to bump and stutter and work at 1/10th the efficiency of when i am not in the sector. If i sit in the player HQ to manage my burgeoning empire i get to enjoy scores of ships getting stuck inside the player hq asteroid killing the economy. I have come to the conclusion that the only way for things to run smoothly is to hide in a secluded area of the universe.

This is probably due to the game disabling collisions when you are not around.
In rebirth when tired of colliding with astroids, you could view the ship from outside and zoom out as much as possible. This would put you outside the "collision distance" and the ship you were in could fly through anything.
I am guessing this is the same thing.

TBH it might be best for them to entirely disable collisions for all player-owned ships and economy-vital NPC ships (i.e. trade ships) until the pathing AI is improved, even if it looks daft - I personally value having a functioning economy over realistic pathing for the very few occasions that I watch a ship dock.

As regards the OP, this has been the case in every X game. I get a system set up with complexes then try to spend as little time as possible there. AI ships don't have collision out of sector. I did not like see my CAGs or agents running into asteroids while I was in sector. Best way to beat Xenon and stuff is to just skillfully fly around a station. The AI is ram happy when you are in sector. I don't find the AI ships dying quite as fast as they should though I saw a freighter just repeatedly banging into the side of a station and it never blew up. Fixed itself when I left the sector for a few minutes.
