Need tips and tricks for Wanted/Scan missions

I have a mission to scan a specific ship that the game says may possibly be in the sector I'm in, how ever I have spent over 2 hours flying around and scanning with my long range scanner and found nothing. Surely there has to be a better way to do this as they cant actually expect you to literally fly around for hours to search for one ship? not without giving you a specific area to search. Can someone please tell me how you are supposed to do this as this is a faction quest and need it to complete the story chain. I have even got the best long range scanner software but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Never had a Scan Ship mission yet. I had a scan station but not a scan ship.
Hehe.. now i have to find this scan ship mission in my game.
Can you tell me the title mission name?

I had a scan mission once, but in the description I have been given a number. GVN-205 I still remember it. I had to fly into a xennon sector which was not mentioned in the mission description. I found the ship there. I had to get out and use scan mode with my space suit (Shift+2) right click on the ship and scan it, that also was not mentioned in the description. And guess what. It was a K class destroyer flying into a minefield protected by 2 wings of Ps with several fighters. So i parked my Eclipse on its back EVA out using it as a shield from the small fighters scanned and GTFO of there. This costed me like 20-30 reloads and few hours but was so cool when I managed to execute it.

Dang it why can't a get those Xenon ship scan missions. The station scan missions arent that dangerous cause if just have to pass over the station and just leave.
Those missions sound hell a lot more daring(and fun) to do.

I have to scan a Xenon M but only tried a ship scan which did not register. If I have to scan the M in my spacesuit this is going to be a lot more difficult

Best way to handle these is to start dropping sats all over the place and then just watch for the ship.

You do. I suggest to disable his engines and find a blind spot for aproach. GL.
