Just a quick question, Im holding off buying this at present, after Rebirth im wary, and would like some time to see the reviews from players and the game to mature a little. My question and biggest concern at present, is the ability to look around your cockpit when flying using your mouse? . All the reviews and videos on You tube seem to be fixed at the front screen like in old X3. Please tell me you can freely look around like in EDS ect.
Also if you can look around, can you 'actually' look behind you now via window to see who's up your arse and chasing you...always does my head in that no ships in any space sim these days seems to worry about whats behind you!

Re: Mouse look
You can look around with numpad but it is fixed - left, right, up, down + diagonals and also it is possible to "free look with mouse" - shift + middle mouse button so you can fly and look same time.
As for looking what is behind you I think the only option is to switch to external view.

Re: Mouse look
It's extremely limited overall.
I like to pilot the ship using the keypad, or up/dn/lf/rt keys while moving my view around with the mouse, but they simply don't support using your mouse to view a different direction.
If you use keypad or POV hat on your joystick to view different directions, it's still using those fixed positions; you can't look behind you, and the Left-Down and Right-Down view are basically completely useless views of a non-functional console.
They also have a terrible design concerning simultaneous use of both mouse and Joystick. It seems whenever you are in "joy stick mode", their input system completely ignores any mouse activity, and visa-versa. So, if you try to use a joystick in the game to fly around, but you want to click on something in space (which happens ALL the time), the moment you start moving your mouse, the joystick becomes dead and the mouse starts working. Basically, you can't use both at the same time, and whichever one you start moving gains control of the game input system. IMO, this is a decision by the engineer who designed it, and is probably some sort of compromise they made to get the game done quicker.. but it makes using a Joystick about 80% less friendly. A real gut punch. Perhaps there may be a fix some day. I also tried using keypad for navigation around a platform. It lets you map the keys, but they simply won't work. I get the impression all the devs are right handed and all use a mouse or controller, or they would have fixed this stuff longgg ago. Basic stuff.

Re: Mouse look
Im utterly speechless!!
Wow what a show stopper, i simply cant believe in nearly 2019 they have brought out a space sim with the same fixed , front / left / right views as Elite did in 1984!!!!! i mean what space sim these days doesn't allow you free look around the cockpit with your mouse while using your Joystick to pilot the craft with the other, i thought Rebirth already had this improvement.
I actually cant believe this is not the only topic being discussed at present....how can you do combat if you cant look around and follow ships that fly to your left right up ect this is what made combat so rubbish in previous X games which were already out of date in this dept.....im totally gutted, i did'nt even think to mention it before, because it simply didn't occur to me it wouldn't be included.
What a disappointment after all these years.
