Help for those just starting out......

Hey there,

Just thought I'd post some tips for those struggling to make money and get on in the game.

1. Get on the super highways ASAP (they're the blue pathways you can see in certain systems). You can race round discovering systems quickly, and it's a good way to find missions quickly if you go into map mode.
2. Missions. Be careful which ones you choose early on. Mine clearance and repairs are easy and can net you decent creds.
3. Visit the traders in stations (yeh, you have to dock) but docking practice isn't all bad. Buy all the supplies required for Medkits (bandages, needles and sedative). Go to the crafting table and make as many Medkits as you can. Return to the trader and sell them to him. This is generally an easy 150K profit. Go to next station, rinse and repeat.
4. When you have 600k or more creds, land at a ship wharf and upgrade your ship. Better engines, docking computer etc.

I'm only a few hours in, but a couple of hours doing this and you should be past your first million easy..

Just a warning though about some of the "Mine clearance" missions: Some are smart mines, be careful as they will head towards your ship when you are close and BOOM, you're dead!

As an added note:

1. Save often.
2. Kill a few criminal transports (generally found randomly near stations). After 3 or 4 are destroyed you will be offered a promotion by the system faction. Accept this, buy a police license etc.
3. Be very wary of accepting the multipart faction missions early on. They often require assets you won't have.
4. Read all mission briefings CAREFULLY before accepting. A little patience is all that's required to have fun....

Dumb mines have a yellow-orange glow around them, tracker mines have a red glow around them.

Looks like the patch broke the medkit spam, but fly around a bit and there are alternatives..

Argnu Steak, spices and mixed fruit makes a Fine Meal for instance, and some of the illegal stuff goes for big money, but it's finding where to sell it....

I've built a couple of miners and set them to automine in resource rich sectors. They keep some money coming in while you explore and do missions.

At the beginning of the game, follow someone's miner and Gather Crystals.

They are inventory items and can be sold at the Trader in the landing platform.

Trust me now.

Mining crystals is again, easy money if you have a little patience. I managed to net 5 million by mining crystals in Argon Prime for around an hour in my stock starting ship. Juicy crates can also be dropped by destroyed Xenon K battleships. 2 of them jumped into Argon Prime while I was mining, so I moved closer and watched the Argon Cap Ships fight with them from 5 km, and collected the components they dropped after they were toasted. When you have enough creds, buy 3 basic mining ships, kit them out and set them to automine.
Select 2 to mine silicon, and one to mine nvidium. Set gate distance limit to 3. They will provide a steady stream of creds and pay for themselves within a short time. Then go explore, do some missions, have fun. The miners will also improve relations with factions they are selling to, so when you can afford another, set one up in Paranid space mining silicon or a gas miner for methane.

Improved relations will get you access to better ships and modules (from level 10), and open up faction missions and licences.
