[1.10 Eng] Losing the ability to save my game

Sadly, I'm not sure what causes this.

It's happened to me once, and I saw a fellow posting on Reddit about the same problem.

The "Save Game" option in the menu gets greyed out. The game stops autosaving as well. In the current case, I didn't notice this until two hours of play had gone by since the last save and I decided to pack it in for the night - "Save Game" grey. I tried getting out of the pilot seat and back in, I tried docking and saving on a station, I tried flying to another sector entirely. No way to save my game.

What sorts of things can cause this? Are there any normal situations when "Save Game" is greyed out?

There are certain situations, such as during a conversation with an NPC, when you can't save. It shouldn't be greyed out normally, though. We'd be very interested in any further information that would help us to identify specific situations where the game got stuck like that.
