This Gamestart Has Tutorial Missions

Post by MutantDwarf »

The 'The Young Gun' gamestart description features the line 'This Gamestart Has Tutorial Missions' in it. I've tried both the 'The Young Gun' and 'The Untested Explorer' gamestarts and I can't tell a difference in how they start in terms of missions. The tutorial missions present in 'The Young Gun' in the 'Help/Tutorials' section of the menu are just as present in the 'The Untested Explorer' gamestart, and the 'The Young Gun' gamestart doesn't seem to have any other non-generic missions available to it (without doing the main faction/HQ missions, which presumably you can do in any start).

Are the 'Tutorial Missions' mentioned in the 'The Young Gun' gamestart just missing? Is the 'This Gamestart Has Tutorial Missions' line in error? Or are the tutorial missions just as hidden as the main plot missions?

It's the latter. Do a couple of side missions and then get called to the EQ dock in Argon Prime. There you'll meet a NPC and then it's off to the races.

I have to stay the gamestart is particularly poorly done. I've played hundreds of hours in X3 (possibly thousands, but I had copies before Steam) and am completely lost on what to do.

So much has changed, the UI is extremely difficult to navigate - controller made no sense at all so had to put it down and simply have no idea what to do. The game doesn't really steer new players in any particular direction which is what I was hoping at least on this game start. Sandbox is great for replaying, but the first time I want a little bit more guidance / direction to give some purpose whilst you learn and navigate the mess that is the interface. (And it's bad, really really bad!)

Are you sure the mission at the EQ Dock in Argon Prime isn't just the standard Argon faction mission chain? If not, what kind of 'tutorial' is it tutorializing?

Shadow: I'd recommend you play through the actual tutorials in the Help/Tutorials section. I ignored them at first - I've been playing X games since X2, including Rebirth, and figured I didn't need them, but I was wrong. The tutorials make sense out of a good number of things I didn't know about before.

I definitely agree that the 'The Young Gun' gamestart should give you a bit more guidance at the very beginning. I was expecting something like the 'flight school' from Terran Conflict with that start, but nope.

The tutorials in the Help/Tutorials window (H button by default) do go over how to get missions - namely the 'ship modes' and 'mission management' tutorials. Missions aren't available at every station, so you may need to wander about a bit before you find anything you like.
