1.0 HF1 BUG Map constantly pans with Joystick installed - Resolved

Post by recnelis »

I am using a X52 joystick. Everything works fine except for when I hit M. When I do the it constantly pans. I had to try and slow it down so I can read or click on things. Anyone else?

I use Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I finally had to unplug it. Despite every effort, game is contantly and uncontrollably panning, straifing, rolling, turning, climing/diving or some combination. The only temporary remedy is all-stop hotkey and/or escaping. It is truly maddening. The joystick is aligned and centered on all axies. The joystick works as expected in other games and responds to it's driver/software self-tests.

I was going to use this as an excuse to finally get an X52 Pro, but from the OP, I fear it would be good money after bad (in the short term). If the problems are X related, I'm more than confident it will be resolved, eventually. Perhaps we can hear some feedback from people who are enjoying flight controller joy?

[edit] A follow-up with additional information. I've noticed a lot of the worst mis-behavior occuring when control is switching from joystick to mouse or mouse to joystick or vice versa. Or when control is shifting to another mode (as the OP mentioned) like opening the map. I don't know if this addition/edit is material.

After checking out birdtable's useful tip, it would always be worth checking the stick calibration and deadzone settings. A simple adjustment there might make things more manageable. (Zortek seems to have already done that though.)

I have the same in X4 and found out that the culprit was the tiny joystick thing on the X52 throttle side. That one you access with your left hand thumb :)
Its calibration is tiny bit off. I increased the deadzone and restarted X4. All is golden now :)

Gamepad off does bring other issues … I would go with silversson as a first and best solution ... :)

I'm having this same issue with an x52 pro. I followed the tip of increasing the deadzone for the left thumb stick, and I got a strange result. Now I don't drift constantly if I'm touching nothing, but only if I try to move the mouse. So getting to context menus while in the ship is extremely annoying at the moment.
The weird thing about the thumb stick is I dont have it mapped to anything and using it does nothing, so I'm still unsure of why this changed the issue for me. Regardless, I'm still getting the drift.

Birdman's tip did it for me. Gamepad off and I'm good to go. Thanks

I concur with the turning off of gamepad mode as a partial work around.

Additionally, I am having trouble setting the roll axis to the stick twist (Z rotation +/-). Whenever I set the throttle to the throttle it changes both the throttle setting to (z axis) and the left roll to z axis. No idea why both get set with one entry.

Also the game will stick in a constant rotation no matter how much dead zone I put in the little mouse stick. Surely these will get fixed.

using x 52 pro ..have you checked all deadzones on calibration of joystick/Hotas, try using Enter and keyboard to move around settings,,, Hope it helps, took a bit of patience but I got there in the end … Do you mean accelerate/deaccelerate for throttle or THROTTLE towards top of control/general settings.

I also have this drift issue. I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

I turned off Gamepad mode, which stopped the drift in flight when I move the mouse. Note, not mouse flight mode, it'd be stable until I moved the mouse at all then the ship would start drifting/rotating in a constant direction until I made a substantial joystick movement. Moving the mouse in any way would start the drift/rotation, but nothing would control the drift. It would simply continue at a fixed speed in a fixed direction until stopped by joystick movement.

So, that's better.

However, my map still constantly pans up and to the right. I've disabled analog FP and menu controls, and indeed no joystick movement (or POV hat, or ANY joystick controls) affect the map, it just constantly pans up and to the right. I can use the keyboard to pan the map (ASDW) which happens in addition to the drifting, but I can't stop the drift.

So, none of these have been related to deadzone settings (which in testing I set very high). When I'm in joystick flight, there's no drift, it centers just fine and controls flight perfectly.

Please help, as this makes the map largely unusable.

Edit: Ok, restarting the game after disabling Gamepad mode appears to have fixed the map slide issue as well. Dunno why a restart was required there but not for the in-flight drift, but there you have it.
