Re: This forum is really slow
Yes, yes it is. That's mainly because of the sheer number of people using it.

I assume that the admins should anticipate increased traffic on the forum after the start of the game and properly prepare the forum.
Right @Alan Phipps ?
(i dont think calling works on this forum ?

Lol, it's Egosoft dude. It took em 10 years to update the forum software, expecting them to anticipate launch-day stress on their websites takes it way too far.
They didn't even expect people would want to trade wares between their ships, or claim them in-sector, or a manual, or entries in the encyclopedia, not crashing because you went into an offi....
Ofc ***modified***, modders doing what Egosoft cant.

It's a small time operation and has been. Doubt it would be worth it for them to put the website and forums on AWS or something else that scales with demand. I agree it's slow but it's always been slow even during Rebirth. Personally I like to think they have a small cluster of RPi's running the site.

Yup it's appallingly slow. I'm seeing response times of 25 seconds.
If Egosoft is self-hosting their website then DON'T
If using a commercial hosting company then STOP using them because they're not very good.
Any sane company should be hosting in Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform to get access to automated scaling depending on traffic. Problem solved.

Yes, it's super slow.
But when I think how AAA companies often don't even foresee how their *game servers* will be flooded when their MMO game launches, and they are down for 50% of their customers (how many times has this happened now?), I'm keen to forgive a small company that has some forum slowdowns on the first couple weeks after a major release. It's not the end of the world.

Microsoft Azure works, but its garbage. oof
I deal with this daily in a work environment on the back end.
This is purely my opinion however lol
I have to say that I am happy I was not going crazy by experiencing this forums slowness. It is really unacceptable given how slow it is. I am thinking they are self hosting the forums in the Germany and its all sitting on a little computer under a desk that's collecting dust there. This usually goes hand in hand with the "if it is not broken then do not fix it" mentality that a few people usually have. Hopefully this is not the case with the game and everything that needs to be patched gets patched promptly. But yes, fix the forum speeds please for everyone outside of the Germany.
"Since, in the long run, every planetary civilization will be endangered by impacts from space, every surviving civilization is obliged to become spacefaring--not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable: staying alive... If our long-term survival is at stake, we have a basic responsibility to our species to venture to other worlds."
