TrackIR Support is Critical
Even more than in X3 or XR, TrackIR support is critical to X4.
There are a lot of things I love about X4: the easy controller setup, the graphics, the dialogs, the new maps, the general feeling of enormity of the universe! This will shape up to be the best X game by a huge margin. I must say however, that without TrackIR I feel confined and claustrophobic within the awesome universe of X4. I hope the devs have this high on the priority list for updates.

[pretend strikethrough tag]How does one use TrackIR? I've never understood the way to use eye tracking for anything other than an alternative mouse. Because if you use it for "look" then, it gets weird when you look to your left, you turn the in-game camera to the left, however, now your monitor is to your actual right and much of it is in your peripheral vision. You're basically trying to look at two directions at once... one to control the trackir, the other to actually see anything.[/strike or whatever]
I was thinking of Tobii eye tracking. But TrackIR is still weird... you turn your head, but keep your eye focused on the center of the screen... at this point, I'd rather go full VR.

Have you, or the person you quoted, tried it ?
You turn your head slightly, camera movement is exaggerated for you. After 2-3minutes on your first try, it feels extremely natural, immersive, reduces keys needed for panning around etc. Not weird in the slightest. One wouldn't play a flight/space/driving sim again without it, unless gone VR route. Trade-off between clearly reading everything in cockpits (TrackIR) vs seeing everything in 3d (VR).
So, +1 to supporting TrackIR and VR

+1 to this request, I thought it was said that we would be getting support in one of the live streams, I hope I was not imagining that

No experience with VR, but I've been using TrackIR for some time now and can no longer pilot a aircraft, spaceship, or even a race car without it. After a few hours of the game yesterday, I got real tired of having to point the nose of my ship at something I wanted to look at.chokko wrote: ↑Sat, 1. I'm hoping that if I just back off of this game for a few weeks things will get better. I was having some issues yesterday with not being able to dock (flying through the deck?!) and somehow flying into and getting trapped in what appeared to be a ship wreck or something. Weird. Still like the game from a overall perspective though. Time will tell.

yep track IR would be great, i've been playing with it on most of my sim games (War thunder, dcs, elite dangerous, star citizen..) and it is very frustrating not to be able to use it here in X4... Hope it will come soon.

Exactly. I use trackir with every flight game i play. I bought it shortly after i discovered x3tc and wont play a flight game that doesnt support it.wrmiller wrote: ↑Sat, 1. Dec 18, 17:29

And EGOSOFT DEVS, in case you are reading, im not talking about the crappy x3ap trackir support, where the reticule moved with your head/gaze, im talking about fully functional trackir support as in elite dangerous or il2.
I wont buy this game if it doesnt fully support trackir.

I'll still play X4 without TrackIR support, but I'll feel like a bird with it's wings clipped. While playing I repeatedly try to alter my view with my head.. as if it is something inherently missing from X4 rather than a 'convenient addition'. X4 will be an unpolished Diamond without TrackIR, but no less valuable. It would be a real shame.

I really REALLY hope we get TrackIR support. Next best thing to VR since this won't support that for a while.

I wont play it or buy it without trackir support. Its too disorienting to play a flight sim without it once you get used to it.shawnburton wrote: ↑Sun, 2. Ten years ago there might have been some excuse for releasing a game of this type without trackir support, these days its imo a critical oversight.

Totally agreed. Need Trackir. can`t believe they shipped without it.shawnburton wrote: ↑Sat, 1. Dec 18, 09:42 Even more than in X3 or XR, TrackIR support is critical to X4.

1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

+1, TrackIR is great! To the person wondering how it would work as you have to turn your head away.... obviously someone who has never used it. It really adds to the immersion

+1 TrackIr maybe in the game files, BUT I cannot find the profile in Natural Point. So I think that it is on the Natural Points end of things.

+1 to this. TrackIR is one of the best gaming purchases I have ever made. I even use it when running around in Arma as a foot soldier.. THAT took some getting used to.
I doubt it is on the Natural Point end, they seem to be ridiculously efficient when it comes to updating their software to support new games.

Yeah its not on naturalpoint, you can use any trackir profile with any game as long as its enabled in the game software.Jawms wrote: ↑Sun, 2. Dec 18, 17:11 +1 to this. You know you see omissions like this and you wonder if devs actually play their games, or maybe its still 1996 at the egosoft offices.
