Bore-sight Firing? - Controlling your ship

Post by Lionick »

Hello!

I have played some X games in the past and have mostly used the bore-sight firing method for controlling my ship. (Not the move to cursor/shoot to cursor location method)
This made the most sense to me as I find it easy to use. Is it still possible to use this in X4? I am unable to find an option to do so..

If i'm out of luck then I guess i'll get used to it eventually :P

What is your preferred control method? And why?

I'm very interested in finding out the answer to this question as well. I ALWAYS use bore-sight firing in the X2/3 games, it was always the easiest way for me to control the ship and fight enemies.

Thanks for asking this question, sir.

Boresight firing is still available IIRC. Space is the current default for boresight fire, and can be rebound under SETTINGS>CONTROLS>GENERAL>WEAPONS>Fire Primary Weapons. :)

I use a hotas setup, but I believe you just need to an alternate fire mode. One of the ObsidianAnt livestreams shows him switching between the two.

There were requests for this control style back during development, since it was missing in Rebirth, but it doesn't seem to have made it into X4 as far as I can tell. (Also, whenever it is brought up, there tends to be a lot of confusion of what is being requested.)

I did find a "mouselooksteering" command line option, but in a quick test it didn't seem to have any effect.

do you even read? boresight fire is space, shift+ space activates mouse steering.

do you even red? boresight fire is space, shift+ space activates mouse steering.
I do read good sir. And I am fully aware shift + space acvtivates mouse steering.
However that is not what I meant, if you have played for example X3 TC you may remember that pressing shift + N activated classic flight mode or "boresight firing".

But some of these fine gentlemen have answered my question - It seems it has not made it into the final game. I believe Egosoft may put it into one of their future patches though.
We'll see how that goes. :)

If you mean the alternate control method for mouse that was available in X3, it is gone.
I rather liked it too, with targetting assist turned on.

All that is left is the rubber band mouse flight, however you have separate bindable buttons for fire at target or fire at cursor... which you will need for different circumstances. Combat vs lockbox cracking.

I'm all mouse + keyboard!
As rubber band mouse steering goes, X4 is one of the smoothest!

This wasn't an "alternate mode" this was the default mode in X3:R and before. It was only "alternate" in X3:TC and X3:AP. Why they refuse to support this mode when so many people want it is beyond me. I can't fly worth a damn with this god forsaken "chase the dot" mode that blights the game.

In X4, I'm using my T16000m FCS HOTAS, so what would be the best way to get both of the firing modes in my case?

It is nice to see other people out there that understand this. I also am no fan of this move to curser thing or space to fire. left mouse button fire is needed no cursor
Maybe I could understand it with a stick but not for mouse and keyboard.
Egosoft Please bring the "bore-sight firing method for controlling my ship" found in all X games from X2 to X3 Albion Prelude back.
Attention: All of your ships are under attack
