Controls issues
Hello, just trying to get started and I've hit a couple of issues just with controls.
Initially tried my joystick/controller, it's recognized fine in windows and normally works in any game that supports analog input but I can't work out how to get it working in X4 - if I go to manage joysticks/controllers then I just have a list of empty slots. Clicking on them does nothing.
If I try to re-assign keys or inputs in that menu it doesn't detect any of my inputs...
So, I decided for now to just play with the mouse and keyboard.
However, while it allows me to re-map keys for movement etc, they just don't work. e.g. re-mapping WASD to Numpad 4,5,6,2 (how I often play) or any others I've tried does nothing, except 5 worked for forward.

Re: Controls issues
Main problem for me on release build is absolutly ****** up controls !
Made negative review on steam.
Egosoft. Guys. You made a game for PC. Right? 99.999999999% of PC players doesnt have joystick or controller. Mouse/keybord profile SHOULD be default from the start. And it SHOULD be well tested and comfortable.
WHERE IS IT FFS ????
I'm trying to use controller profile => map doesn't work.
I"m trying to use joystick profile => other stuff doesn't work.
I'm tired after work, i want to play, not browsing 100 strings of settings !

Re: Controls issues
It took me a little less than an hour to completely map my T16000 fcs hotas, that's not that long.
There is a tutorial on how to map controls, and after that I just started doing tutorials one after the other, editing the controls at the same time.
You'll probably spend hundreds of hours playing the game and everyone likes to have it's own binding, so one hour to make your bindings doesn't seem that horrible to me.

Re: Controls issues
I do agree with you in principal Nicolas, I expected to spend my initial play session setting up the controls and doing some tutorials. I had a couple of hours after work before I went out tonight that I'd set aside for this "adjustment period" but sadly all that got swallowed up and I got nowhere really.
I did try the joystick/controller tutorial and it started off then just stopped, running it again doesn't do anything.
I made it as far as the 2nd tutorial and destroyed the 3 targets then it told me to collect the containers that had been dropped by running over/into them. I just bounce off though. Then that tutorial just carried on as though I'd picked the things up and seemed to finish. Tried re-running it but it does nothing, I probably have to dock or start again for it... dunno, gone off the controls topic a bit here.

Re: Controls issues
That is a big logic fail. One can say 99% of the PC sim players have joysticks, many have more than one. This is not Angry Birds, mate, now WOW, if that is what you look then you are in the wrong place.

Hi guys,
just started and have a TM 1600 attached but thats not the problem yet, the problem is that right at the begining the mouse cursor goes straight to the upper right corner and fights every movement back....any ideas?
I allready read that it‘s not mouse/kb by default, but still searching to make any changes in settings...

Re: Controls issues
For info, the Numpad keys are hard coded to the camera -you can rebind them in the menu, but this does nothing.
Also, the &,é, " and ' keys are hardcoded to weapon choice in a similar fashion.
Seriously, Egosoft, I love you guys but... how can you let such things pass through your testings ? Controls are the basic of basic. Don't get surprised if you get bad review, my very first experience in the game was discovering that the numpad keys I rebinded to move around wouldn't work, that's quite some bad first impression... How many customers lost to some silly error like that ?

Taken me over two hours to get the joystick, to turn the ship correctly. Yet it jerks suddenly in movement then stops. The dead zone is ether all or nothing, still with sudden movement. Not smooth at all.
The throttle has a mind of its own, full on or numb.
Trying to dock is a nightmare. I get all the green lines lined up and nothing happens. I am Left hovering about !
What am I doing wrong? With docking!

Nort - if you have the green triangle and line, try strafing down (S by default) to complete docking.

Thanks for confirming what the keyboard issue is, you sit down and click on things that look like they're working but don't, it's a bit basic functionality.theslay wrote: ↑Fri, 30. I'll do something else for a few days and see if they get it fixed, I have limited free time to mess around with things though so I'll refund if it's not sorted soon. I've played the X games back to XBTF and have been burned before so I feel a bit foolish again now

I had a similar problem ( different Joystick X52)and it was a wheel in the throttle that was out of center, as soon as I centered that wheel my problem was solved, also had something like your problem but more subtle it was in options >> controls>> I changed game-pad to OFF.PuffyEichhorst wrote: ↑Fri, 30. With this ON after a while the ship had a little lateral movement that stopped when I moved the Joystick.

HOW DO I DO THE FOLLOWING:
Use Right Click to Fire without Opening Context Menu on Target I have the F key for that.
Remove a Bind that I don't want?

+1 to being able to rebind the right mouse button/menu popup. I'd rather have middle click for the interaction menu and right click for fire, but there seems to be no way to rebind a lot of the mouse controls.

You then use your thruster to go down. Then you bounce a little and you’re good to go.Nort The Fragrent wrote: ↑Fri, 30. Is there a fix for this yet? Drives me nuts during battle where I can't even see what I am trying to aim at.
Thanks

Re: Controls issues
My controller: TM 16000M FCS. It wouldn't do anything in game but lateral ship movement. It actually controlled walking around stations better. I changed the profile to TM 16000 HOTAS and it flies the ship and fires, everything works "OK" except the built in throttle. It is not separate like on the HOTAS. I can't get the throttle mapped to Z and X. Its either one or the other. That is my last major issue with the game. Everything else is smoothed out, looks awesome, and the minor bugs I can work around. Am I overlooking something?
