Re: Mod request: No running around, no crew, no new bull
i played x3 a thousand hours, no need to recommend that to me...
But it had...
- poor multicore support,
- poor autopilots (especially in seta mode),
- capital ships can only pass through gates one after another with a big delay,
- building, equipping and configuring ships is impossible to automate and even a hassle with mods, (game needs templates for many things)
- UI is quite dated, quickly navigating with the numbers is usually pretty effective but there are lots of repetitive tasks,
- Needs some well programmed group commands to avoid those repetitive tasks
Do i need to explain further why i'm putting my hopes into x4?

Not sure you will need a mod for that based on vids released so far.
Was curious too if i need to update autocrew, but it seems you can add hirelings to your loadout presets..? Maybe for boarding.
Not sure if you can shop remotely but we will see pretty soon.

This just in: ship's can't operate without a crew in real life either. Technically, until X-Rebirth, you were playing against ships running solely on autopilot.

I think you will lose a lot - comparing to horror of XR the interiors are highly functional and crew management can be done from GUI menu.

I'm more interested in AutoTrain.
Need confirmation first that NPC skills are static or not. The 0 morale pilots on Obsidian's stream made me cringe.

In one of the stream I saw "select best crew for pilot" button - so I assume you can auto set the crew from small fighter to huge carrier with one button.

Can we at least *try* the new stuff before decrying it as the devil's work?

This still means I have to hire a dozen crew before anyone that looks semi competent shows up.

I liked Autotrain cause I didn't need to replace the standard pilot or captain that was given with the ship. Just set them to patrol a zone for a few hours...

Well considering the best MOD for Rebirth was NESA (Never Enter Station Again) which was later incoporated to the game itself and considering that I just saw the same useless and lame station walking now "enhanced" by really stupid Elite like landing, I think that OP request regarding no running around is quite right. And I bet that some new version of NESA will emerge soon.

I think the vanilla "Docking Computer" upgrade will do the job.plynak wrote: ↑Fri, 30. Landing in Elite is one of the best parts. I'm actually pretty happy to see something like that implemented here.
Ayn Rand was correct.

On the Russian stream I just saw something that looked like automated landing.

But but but it's already implemented!

News: in this century, trains, planes and even some automobiles all operate without crew. What's wrong with a robot pilot anyway, you robophobe!repatomonor wrote: ↑Fri, 30. (I actually liked the idea that some ships were piloted by the autopilot that was given commands, like return to station x, not every ship needs a crew to perform simple operations)

It's almost impossible to write an ai that flies like a real humanoid, so it's more immersive if you say it's a computer that flies the ship

This. Plus the X series started with manual docking in X and X2 - I for one am glad it's back. We already know it can be automated by the docking computer once it gets old.jasonbarron wrote: ↑Fri, 30. Nov 18, 15:23 Landing in Elite is one of the best parts. I swear, soon someone is gonna request to remove the "stupid flying around" too, so we can play our economic simulation without those pesky graphics.
