Dynamic reactions from NPC

Post by -Demongornot- »

One of the feature I wish the most was a thing, is NPC reacting diffently to who we are depending on our "reputation" or on our ship.
If we are known to easily kill anyone, or if we have a huge ship or even a huge fleet, or that we save everyone in this sector, there is nothing more immersion breaking than an NPC acting as if we are Sir Random Person with a unnamed ship...
Even the bravest pirate in his small fighter would never try to fight us if we are a known killer in a decent ship or whoever we are in a frigate or even capital ship, this make no senses, even if we attack them, they should be the one fleeing, not attacking.

Having a huge ship, if we want realistic behavior, we should rather have peoples being fan of our ship, if we have a huge capital ship, a unique ship or a Xenon ship, we should see small ships following us, as it happen in real life with exotic cars or bikes, there is always peoples to admire them.
I think NPC fan of our Xenon ship and afraid to make us angry should be a thing rather than a nobody talking to us in our capital Xenon ship like we are a nobody or Mr pirate 3563 with his small fighter trying to take down a war machine who could take the whole sector by itself.

Of course if we own a huge station in the sector, merchants should also respect us.
But if we are just a random merchant or mercenary with a small fighter, then it is logical that NPC see us as a nobody.

I think that if I saw a lot of small ships following my 'unique' capital, I would start thinking "Uh, oh!"

I will agree that some kind of threat assessment would make sense for pirates (maybe not so much factions who are fighting you defensively) but I really don't think the celebrity stuff need be simulated. And besides, you'd probably get a more detailed view of it via instruments than flying up to it and getting run over.

I agree threat level should be taken into account by pirates and the like - a pirate in a Discoverer attacking a capital ship and its fighter escorts on their own is just suicidal. And if I threaten someone my ship's combat potential compared to their own should play a factor (as well as my reputation) in whether they're laughing in my face or wetting their flightsuit.

However, who in real life follows exotic cars around like a duckling?

They might turn a few heads, sure, or have some people pause to admire them for a moment in a parking lot, but I've never seen groups of motorists deviating from their own planned routes in order to follow an exotic car around. Fuel isn't free, and most people have better things to do. Having small ships follow you like seagulls flocking around a fishing trawler sounds like it'd be incredibly annoying too.

The only exception I can think of would be in dangerous/lawless territory. I could see neutral or allied ships sticking near my warship there so they can hide behind it if there's an attack, but in patrolled space? Nah, they'd just zip around it while going on their merry way.

i actually like that idea, but maybe have the npc hail you and ask permission. And if you agree its almost like a side quest you can gain faction affinity by allowing them to use you as a body guard while you are in the system, and if you do encounter any pirates or hostiles of that faction you can earn a few extra credits providing protection.

I was more talking about turning peoples head as you said than following the ship across the whole sector, just being interested by our ship or something like that, and only for exceptional ship, like huge xenon M1/M2 or unique ships.
And when I said small ship I was referring to the small ship like civilian cars in X Rebirth but I did not realize they are apparently not in X4.

Also, hypercar make more than head turn :

This happen quite a lot when cars like that appear.
But I agree with everyone, this isn't a good idea after all, the drawback and annoyance would too strong in the game.

I totally agree, also actually when under attack, a ship should always fly toward allies and when enemy are in the sector they should try to fly away.
