Player character
Will we have the option to have a 3rd person camera view of our character as we walk around? Also, will we have the ability to choose which race and/or gender our character model is? Maybe be able to select from the list of currently available models?

Pretty sure it sounds like it's going to be like X3 Terran Conflict/Albion Prelude. Set race/gender for each starting position, I'm assuming the name is editable though.
Also some of the ships (S sized) seem pretty tight for a third person camera to work without clipping through everything or making it next to impossible to see, but honestly I have no clue on that one.

You can certainly see yourself through the cockpit window when in 3rd person view while in your ship, but I don't know about 3rd person mode when walking around.atavistuk wrote: ↑Sun, 7. And yes you will have multiple starts to choose from which include (I believe) one or more of each race. Gender I don't know. But in any case I think you're stuck with whatever model the devs chose for that start.

I think it will be as it was said above: you're stuck as the race and gender of whatever start you choose, like X3.

Re: Player character
I think 3rd person view would only make sense, if you were able to make your own character or at least change some of your outfits.
Which brings me to the question: Why did they bring back walking outside of your ship? Is it fun this time? What can I do with this, that a comm connection wouldn´t have done also?

Now that the player has a body model and It can be seen from outside the ship, I dont see why a 3rd version view cant at least be enabled if even by mods, not that you would realy want to anyway. Theres no customization for your character model and Egosoft arnt the best at making character animations. There was a similar debate at Bethesda forums for Oblivion and Skyrim over the inclusion on a 3rd person mode and the general consensus between the bethesda devs and forum users was that it subtracts from the immersion level and the sense that you are the character you are playing. But after the console noobs begged and begged Bethesda put a working 3rd person view into Skyrim and its terrible to actually play with. But that doesnt stop the idiots complaining on the mod forums that the new magic mod made by who ever doesnt work so well in 3D person. Even when I put in big letters saying "THROWING WEAPONS DO NOT WORK IN 3RD PERSON" they still made lots of stupid comments about it.
Just... another... bug.

I wouldn't go as far as say it was idiotic to do that, 3rd Person Mode is very popular when you look at games that have it (There is allot) so the demand is there.
Personally it doesn't bother me just as long as we can choose our own camera view and aren't bogged down to whatever a particular group of fans want; like the highway system, Egosoft have done their best to cater to both groups, make the Highways Marmite palatable.
Also.. Seeing as Star Citizen and Elite:Dangerous have their own customization tools, I'd predict in the distant future Egosoft will go this road as well, eventually, but it's probably not their top concern right now.
Also they want as many Camera angles as they can for those who want to record Intros or other manners of mini-film for Youtube.
As for throwing weapons.. Egosoft have made it clear that they wont be doing this, or any combat-based engine physics; i've heard the question asked a few times in the Rebirth Forums and they all got shot down in spectacular fashion, so nowt to worry about.
Maybe not, in previous X Games you chose to be the Teladi Merchant or the Terran Commander. They could get away with that because there was no model for the Player as the game wasn't designed so you would see character models or anything of that nature that you wouldn't be able to get away with now with Rebirth or X4.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Mon, 8. If they go back to the X3 Story mode of choosing "The Teladi Merchant" and other Race specific plots then I'm sure they wont be lazy about it and add that Race into your Character, I doubt it will be gender specific though? So men out there will have to live with the possibility that their game will generate a Female and Vice Versa; unless they want to add that in last minute?

Do we even know if there are female Teladi or Paranids?

I thought all Teladi were female, according to the lore. Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought I heard this somewhere.ZaphodBeeblebrox wrote: ↑Mon, 8. Oct 18, 17:31 Do we even know if there are female Teladi or Paranids?

Question is: Will we ever see a male Teladi?

The X Encyclopedia:
Teladi: All egglings are essentially female clones of their parents.
Paranid: The Paranid species has 11 genders, while not all of these are necessary for any individual act of reproduction.

I thought there were still male Teladi from Ianamus Zura, though? Like, males could only develop on the homeworld, so when the Teladi colonies got separated from their homeworld (the ones whose capital sector became Seizewell) they could only reproduce via parthenogenesis - hence, all females.

Re: Player character
So if we get to pick a Paranid start will we have a choice from those 11 genders? If so, is there a hierarchy in Paranid society for the genders? So, if you picked gender number 9 and that was considered the bottom of the heap, no other Paranid would give you the time of day.
Could introduce a whole other level in to the game. The Paranid Slime Bucket start.

Great, now we have to create nouns for all 11 Paranid gendersZaphodBeeblebrox wrote: ↑Mon, 8. Oct 18, 17:52 So if we get to pick a Paranid start will we have a choice from those 11 genders? If so, is there a hierarchy in Paranid society for the genders?

I can already see it:
Me: Paranids have 11 genders? I thought you were a guy?
<Trigerred Paranid>: Did you asume my gender? Reeeeeeeeeee!
