I am talking about these things, found in the trailer for a split second @ 2:21
https://youtu.be/dUcXYxILnF8?t=141
The list of deployables shown here include:
Laser Tower Mk1
Mine
Nav Beacon
Satellite
Resource Probe
Old Tracker Mine
Advanced Satellite
Tracker Mine
Flares (under the Countermeasures category)
I was wondering if we could get some clarification regarding these.
Satellites and Nav Beacons: Are these going to essentially be "player only" items, or will NPCs deploy them in a non-scripted fashion? X3 had a number of such items, and wile I deployed many a satellite as it was useful to allow my traders to see trade deals in a sector, I never once saw an NPC lay down one of these. Would NPCs or NPC factions benefit at all from satellites, such as recon for enemy ships, or giving them knowledge of trade deals? What are the essential differences between a nav beacn, satellite, and advanced satellite? Will they allow the player and/or NPC to see trade deals?
Mines: In X3, they were there, but largely useless. I mostly ignored them. How will they be in X4? Will they have friend/foe recognition, only exploding when an enemy is nearby? Will they be difficult to see visually and spot on radae? Will NPCs deploy them in a non-scripted fashion? Will warring factions use them as part of their warfare? What are the differences between a mine, a tracker mine, and an old tracker mine? Will using them in ship to ship combat (ie deploying them when being pursued by another ship) be a viable combat technique?
Resource probes: Are they like limpets in Elite, where in order to know the composition of an asteroid, you fire one into the asteroid and it is consumed? Can they be used for gas harvesting? Will they be required for mining, or optional?
Laser Tower Mk1: Will NPCs deploy these in a non-scripted fashion?
Flares: Is this the only type of countermeasure we will have against missiles? Will they be deployed via hotkey, or will they be able to auto-deploy when the ship senses a missile is fired at it?
Deployables in general: Will these occupy cargo space, or a special "deployable" cargo area separate from general cargo? If so, will loading them require being docked at a station?

Re: Deployables
There was a bit from the trailer displaying an(IIRC) Argon Mercury's customization. It had 'Deployables' as a listed special loadout max, as well as Countermeasures and one other thing (drones?). This was seperate from Cargo.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

Re: Deployables
Good catch!
Definitely an interesting list of deployable items. My assumption is that like ammunition and equipment, deployables will have their own storage space independent from cargo (presumably to help with automatically deploying them, instead of just kicking them out the back door like we used to.)
It will be interesting to see how these can be manufactured - I'm guessing it'll be by consuming a generalized ware like we're going to be doing with shields and weapons.
It will ALSO be interesting to see if NPCs can make effective use of some/all of these items.

Re: Deployables
Hmm, did we ever get any info on what station modules produce what goods? I'd hate the think we would need an entire module just for flares, as opposed to a module that produces them along with mass driver ammo and chaff or something simple.
I must defend my honor!

Re: Deployables
I noticed that when the trailer came out. Was wondering if...
Thats the known delpoyables?
The current deployables?
or All the deployables available in the game?

Just... another... bug.

Re: Deployables
Most likely the deployables the tester has encountered in that specific gameplay.

Re: Deployables
that means you have inventory space for 2 countermeasures. Since there is no scrollbar I guess only flares are there. Same as you have space for 20 deployables of your choice (not 20 of each)

Re: Deployables
Ah, now that I looked closer - you're right!
Well even if flareas are the only ones then it's improvement over X-Rebirth and on pair with X3 (albeit I never liked mosqito missile defense).
