Split from Linux support
No need of a linux version that's taking away ressources from egosoft The cost of a linux version is way over the benefit they can do on it... so for the 5 linux player sorry guys, Time to face nostalgia and admit that you have to go on windows for gaming.

Please don't reply hastily to what is obviously intended to be a provocative post from Kittens David.

Re: Linux support
no no no it is not a provocative, it is realism. The game wont port itself on linux for free, there is a cost in money and human workforce. That cost can be used to improve the game a little more. And sorry but the linux player base is so thin i dont think unless they agree to pay hundreds of bucks their copy that the number of linux sales would cover the porting cost. That's realism not provocation. Sometimes reality has to be faced.

Re: Linux support
In my opinion, the more believable 'realism' is in the statement and supporting link quoting Egosoft in the X4 Devs' Q&A Index Sticky:
[*]Will there be a Linux version?
This is not decided yet. But as all previous games had a linux version and part of the technology we're using (e.g. Vulkan rendering engine) is designed to work on Linux too, there's a good chance for one. EDIT: Also see this.
Still, you are entitled to believe what you wish.

Re: Linux support
Quoting Egosoft saying there will likely be a linux version isn't really an argument against the fact that there is essentially no linux market and time spent programming that could be better served helping the vast vast 99.3% majority have an even better game especially since egosoft games have a well deserved reputation of being a bit of a buggy mess for at least the first year (and I say that as someone who just happily pre-ordered collections edition x4). I also recognize the fact that Egosoft will give no shits about what a few people on the forum think of their business decisions and are gonna do whatever they want.

Realism is not to tell what the devs to do and how to make their games and run their companies. Suggestions are one thing. Full out demanding makes you that insane person screaming in the restaurant having a tantrum.Kittens David wrote: ↑Tue, 2. Oct 18, 19:08 no no no it is not a provocative, it is realism. Re: Linux support
Have I said the devs MUST NOT do a linux version ? I dont think so. I just have stated a doubt about cost/return of a linux porting. If you think that by that i am an insane person provoking... what do you think about the OP who asked WHEN there will be one and not IF there will be one so in your way of reading my words the OP is commanding the devs to make one...

Re: Linux support
That's enough. The OP's question has been answered, and this ridiculous nitpicking is not going anywhere. There will be formal warnings if it happens again.
