Re: Lest we forget
I don't think anyone forgot about this but also, don't forget..

I see a lot of similarities between Rebirth and the original BTF. And the steps taken to correct them seem to mirror a lot of what happened with X-Tension. I'm sure there will be bugs and problems on launch. But I'm also 100% sure they will be fixed. And the basis (or "foundation") for X4 looks wayy more solid than Rebirth.
TL;DR: I've been through all the ups and downs since BTF and Egosoft games are the only games I pre-order with glee

Yes Please remember that X4 is more like X3 and next time read before buying a game and assume X Rebirth is X4
Also keep in mind Egosoft is amazing to provide support many years after even though some past launches are rough. keep in mind that their using Rebirth Engine meaning it's a upgrade (NOT THE SAME GAME) But a upgrade on already experienced engine meaning things should be more polished already.

Re: Lest we forget
That's why I'm going to see what it's like from friends or youtube. I didn't get on with rebirth not because of technical issues it was more of design and gameplay mainly and quality control like NPC's and station interiors, the map etc. Sounded good before launch tho but wasn't what I expected after release.
So while it looks and sounds good, I'm going to wait and see if it lives up to what it wants to be.
Definitely won't preorder. Probably get it shortly after release which hopefully discount is still active, we shouldn't be punished by price just because we don't preorder.
I hope it is what it is with no hidden surprises like still annoying NPC's that have bad lines of dialogue, boring copy and paste interiors etc, limited weapon choice.
But really look forward to the new map tho and hopefully all the ships feel different to fly and fight in. And even tho no major story like X2 I hope there's at least the equivalent in missions of good quality and sub plot arcs. I'm eager to see what it's like to play with the vulkan API and how moddable the game is with vulkan in.
I'm thinking it's going be a good game tho so I'm trying to be positive and hope egosoft do well with it. Nothing wrong being a little cautious given the money it will cost for the version with dlc included, I hope it's all dlc included as not paying for more dlc in 3 years time lol.

I think it is more accurate to say that those that preorder are being rewarded with a discount. Not receiving a reward when you don't do the thing is being rewarded isn't the same as being punished.

Re: Lest we forget
I dont want to be pessimistic but I dont want to by bounced by hype either.
I didnt get X Rebirth because of the flaws in X3 and "lest we forget" the suppression I encountered from representatives of the moderation team here when I pointed out problems with X3 in a civil manner, which was my duty as a higher tier beta tester. It turned out that I was justified in my criticisms and by all accounts X Rebirth was the proof of this.
I hope they have included all the things absent in X3 like gate transitions and cockpits, I want to see those before I buy.
I hope we can land inside space stations again as I liked that too.
I hope they have thought about the narrative perspective and storytelling involved in satisfying gameplay and not just the hype of high impact graphics for advertising this time because reputation and recommendation on the internet do matter for digital productions.
I am willing to give them another chance but once bitten twice shy. I will see reviews first and lets not ignore the DLC marketing techniques used in Rebirth. I have no problem with giving them money if the game is fun to play but if the pursuit of cash destroys the gameplay I cannot support it, it is not in my interests as a gamer or theirs as a game producer to go up that dark alley.

Re: Lest we forget
Very true. While the game looks promising indeed, I'm looking forward to a game deriving spiritually from X-Trilogy and I wish X4 to be a great success I completely don't understand the hype. The trailer and "gameplay" look promising as well but we haven't really been showed much more than what we already knew. In addition I'm a bit concerned why Egosoft has used Alpha footage for a game to be released in 2 months? Also 50 euro for the game sounds a bit much to me, I would have to see the actual gameplays to decide whether I want to pay this amount or wait for sale.

Re: Lest we forget
If the footage is representative, then why not? It takes time to record footage, and close to launch they probably want to spend time polishing rather than taking footage.

Re: Lest we forget
That's a really good point!
Codemasters did the same with F1 2018, but that's just derivative of the previous game (graphics were improved, but everyone really only carred about physics improvements which can't really be shown in a "trailer")
I'm not sure if the same can be said for X4? Are graphics somehow separate from what the game actually is?
Split say NEED MORE FIREPOWER!!

Re: Lest we forget
This is so correct. I've bought every single X game to date. I've been playing them since the first one around the year 2000 -- that's 18 years of playing X games. But after what they did to their fans with X:Rebirth, I'm really, really trying to resist buying this one, unless the reviews are exceptional.

Re: Lest we forget
I pre ordered X rebirth and I didn't get quite so many of the bugs. Quite frankly though, EGO have done a fantastic job over the years at putting things straight. Why should this be any different? I pre ordered X4 because, although there may be bugs and problems, I feel sure that this will also get put straight and turn out to be another great game. Cant wait for the journey to start.
