A few questions based on the title taken from the game description.
1) Can we choose how aggressive AI expansion will be?
2) Is it possible to be overwhelmed if we don’t do too well?
3) will our own aggressive expansion trigger a response or will the AI have little awareness of our actions?

I was wondering that as well, I also want to be able to fill that supply and demand gap, I wouldnt want the game to say "Hey I need a new solar power plant" and new stations start apearing all over the place filling thier own needs and making it non frofitable to build player stations.
Just... another... bug.

That's exactly what I would want. I want the computer to try to fill gaps in economic holes. It would provide a challenge to me as a player, and make the universe's economy more healthy and vibrant. I like a challenge.DaMuncha wrote: ↑Mon, 1. Re: Races expand their empire based on supply and demand
I too have been wondering exactly how the various AI factions might respond to my, and each others actions. For example, I quite like to build a self-sufficient factory network - certainly in Rebirth - so my assets do everything from mining to ship production (via mods) which is cool.
Where things don't work so well in Rebirth (and earlier games) though is when the player decides to forgo the low-level raw resourcing activities. In X4 I'd hope that if I set up an empire that draws on the economy for raw resources - so, I'm not sending out my own mining ships - that it will respond appropriately.
So, in this scenario we'd see various AI factions expanding their mineral mining operations in response to the demand we, the players, are putting on the system. The flip side might be true too, if a player becomes a mining mega-corporation, flooding the market with cheap Ores, this might lead to Factions expanding more rapidly, due to the ample resources. This would be amazing
However, all that said, such a dynamic system can't be too tight as there needs to be leeway for the player to make money through regular trading, if they choose to play that way. I'd guess that while the economy does respond to market conditions, it's not a speedy undertaking for a faction to set up a new station for example.
It's funny really, I'm speculating on things ES have doubtless been thinking hard about for years now lol. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to November the 30th - fingers crossed for a smooth launch!
One final thing, I know we have the launch video and the brief gameplay one, but it'd be GREAT to get another live stream as we approach the release date. I appreciate though that with a small team it might be a case of all hand on keyboards preparing for launch
