Hoping not to steal anyone's thunder but as it's been online for 30 mins already we need a place to discuss the new trailer ;) Feel free to lock if an "official" thread is made.

Can't watch full screen at work unfortunately but I saw some possibly interesting new(?) UI flashes at around 2:17.

Lots of cool looking new interior shots too, wonder what that's all about. New walking animation for NPCs also looks better than before.

Otherwise, lots of amazing looking new close-up shots of cockpits and stations.

Only one problem, 2 months to release sounds like forever :))

November 30th is perfect, I'll have had a month to play Farm Sim 19 and will be able to play X4 all over Christmas. Best birthday present ever this year... now I just have to convince my wife to work lots over the holidays hahaha :D

Damn you! I was just about to start a trailer disection thread!

Lets rip it apart and find out all its little secrets hidden inside.

00:10 we got <ship name> flying through a station complex. Follwed by smaller civilian ships flying around the station, once seems to be a police scanning another ship (will we hear police sirens in space?).
00:15 we've got some outer station details showing a exterior elevator.
00:17 Some civilian traffic flying around the station (will we see civ traffic around our player made stations?)
00:20 the station has been built next to a steroid field probably for mining
00:22 a L trade vessel flying in to trade with the station
00:24 a fleet of identical war ships
00:26 a M ship taking off a platform, also shows small civilians ships coming in to land and flying into a small hole (parking garage)
00:28 a trade ship taking off a landing platform, shows the lush garden scenery and the ship dock
00:30 a L trade ship flying out of a interior space dock (Teladi station)
00:38 gimbling guns
00:42 a station with lots of storage modules built into it near a planets rings
00:44 a M ship taking off a platform on a station built amongst water asteroids.
00:46 water/gas storage modules
00:48 a taladi scout ship
00:50 the cockpit of a large trade ship
00:51 a L shipyard
00:54 3 scout ships on patrol
00:58 station advertisement decorations
1:00 outside looking into the interior of a L ship with NPC crew inside
1:01 a small paranid station
1:06 the interior of a cockpit with a paranid/split pilot approaching a dock yard
1:10 a M trade vessel landing on a platform
1:13 the colorfull design of a dock yard thingy with various cuts of views around the dock yard
1:23 rooms onboard a station with various monitoring screens (I hope these rooms will actually have a purpose this time)
1:40 the colorful and high tech business area of a ship yard
1:49 COMBAT!
2:18 station and ship customization and building

Observations from trailer:
  • 0:24 - what type of ships is that fleet made up of? They look incredible
  • 0:26 - you can see the 'air shield' effect when the ship takes off into space from the hangar
  • 0:54 - what the heck is that? It looks VERY close to the planet in the background o_O (probably just very zoomed in shot of small ships but certainly interesting!)
  • 1:02 - another very phallic looking station - I think X4 is taking a page out of the book of the Lexx for sure xD
  • 1:54 - another view of that area which is super close to the planet, and another of those first ships from the fleet shot
Super exciting stuff! :D

Please, can we next time get better communication of such news? The very first place I would expect to see such announcements is the Egosoft's official website. It's 12:43 CEST and still nothing here: https://www.egosoft.com/news/current_en.php I kept refreshing this website as well as X4 Foundations English forum shortly after 12:00 CEST only to accidentally find that someone posted links to YT videos in this thread: https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=146&t=400415

It's all great news and I can't wait for the game, sorry for bringing a bit of (constructive I hope) criticism in this hour but please- improve your communication with player base (and therefore customers) in the future.

The delay to the information being added to the news page was caused by a previously-undetected problem related to the forum upgrade. We are working to get that sorted out as quickly as possible.

I was seriously loaded up with a mug of freshly brewed coffee and kept refreshing the ES Youtube page every 30 seconds the last minutes until the trailer hit. Was it satisfying? VERY. I'm so damn hyped for the release I'd almost wanna try getting a short coma just to get there faster.

And more on topic: that trailer was very well thought out and really managed to present the game in a terrific way, informational without being "dry" and visually highly enjoyable without revealing too much, probably one of the best trailers ever made from a consumers perspective. (Edit: I meant the 7m gameplay footage, the short trailer was more of just a bit of eye candy)

The trailer was good eye candy, but didn't really have any new info. Same with the gameplay video. About the only new thing I learned was the release dates, which I kinda already figured based on the screenshot of the day yesterday :)

I was kinda hoping for a more informal "let's sit down and play through some of the game as it stands" type of presentation. Less telling us what we are going to be able to do in a brief synopsis with generic ship and station graphics, and more showing us how we are going to be able to do it. More showing of menu interfaces, more showing us details of how to set up trade runs, maybe showing us examples of choosing a mission to follow, rather than just telling us we will be able to play certain types of missions.

I guess when I think of a gameplay trailer, I think of following someone playing the game, with all the boring, non flashy stuff that comes into it. I want to see how we will be able to accomplish certain things, so I can get an indication of whether we will be fighting the user interface to accomplish certain things, what sort of option we have, etc.

@Falcrack - you're thinking of a "Let's play", totally different from a trailer! We still have a couple of months so I'm pretty hopeful that Egosoft will do more Twitch streaming as they did before, to show off the game in a more complete state as we near the end of November :)

I noticed a screen in the trailer where it listed deployables, @ 2:21, and in that list were both satellites and advanced satellites. So, they're in I guess!

Also in that list, a resource probe, laser tower mk1, mine, nav beacon, old tracker mine, and tracker mine. Also, flares as a countermeasure!

So, what are the gameplay functions of satellites, resource probes, and nav beacons? Will they be able to let us know the station stocks and prices like in X3, for stations that are within ranges? And will we be able to order NPCs to drop satellites autonomously in order to map out the universe (like a deploy satellite network command), or will we still need to be involved in the decision as to where to drop each individual satellite?

Will flares auto deploy with inbound missiles, or will they always have to be manually deployed with a hotkey? Will some missiles be more immune to countermeasures than others? Different grades of countermeasures other than flares?

Really interesting to see that we're going to be able to do the infiltration and bomb planting as we could in Rebirth, but via EVA Spacesuit rather than drones. Also means we no longer have to worry about hacking/bombing w/ two separate drones. About the only thing we lose is the "fight" drone and I think the only use for that was picking open lock boxes, really.

All this being said, I wonder if in the future (or even now) we'll be able to send out marines on "bomb planting" missions or "hack target" missions. Might be cool to watch from the bridge, "will they get spotted..."

Yep, that was announced already some time ago. At least the Paranid are split into two factions (maybe the others too?)

I believe that at minimum the Argon are also divided into (at least) the Federation and the Hatikvah Free League, though I'm not sure if they're enemies of each other. The possibility is also there for some other Argon/Terran factions, plus it sounds like Pirate factions are supposed to be more fleshed out as members of the economy this time around.

And the Teladi of course are historically divided between those from Seizewell and the ones from Ianamus Zura, so we might get to see those as separate factions as well.

And I believe I read that we'll at least SEE some Split on space stations and maybe as pilots/crew, just not any Split-dominated factions.

Plus, we might see some factions made up of more of a melting pot of species. Pirates are already kind of like that anyway, so. ^^
