Question for the FAQ - game discount and why game source matters for VR devices?
I recall reading that previous Rebirth owners would receive a discount on the VR edition.
Does this apply to the early access release or or is this the same discount you're giving everybody who gets in early?

Cool, thank you. Much obliged.
Also, the FAQ does indicate pretty strongly that Oculus owners should buy it in the Oculus store and Vive owners should buy it in the Steam store. Does this actually matter, and if so, why? Doesn't SteamVR support Oculus?
(particularly if I own Rebirth on Steam for the discount, how is the Oculus store going to know that I own it? also I just hate the Oculus store....)

Yes, SteamVR does indeed support the Oculus VR Headset. However, the Oculus Touch Controllers aren't supported. (afaik, the only VR controllers that are supported by SteamVR are the Vive ones). So if you plan on just using the Oculus VR headset and not their controllers, but a Joystick or Steam Controller instead, then the Steam version should work fine for you. And if it doesn't work, you can always return a game on Steam if something doesn't work as long as you haven't spent more than 2 hours in thatAquitaine wrote: Also, the FAQ does indicate pretty strongly that Oculus owners should buy it in the Oculus store and Vive owners should buy it in the Steam store. They're supported just fine for plenty of games. (at least, it's possible, but if it's just the case that the work hasn't or won't be done to integrate them on Steam, that's what matters -- but it doesn't appear to be an SDK limitation.)However, the Oculus Touch Controllers aren't supported. I bought this at 30% off so I assume loyalty discount is now opersting
I'm on holiday in Moscow at the moment so can't try it out just yet. I am listening to the X-Music in my hotel room as I type though.

Contact info@egosoft.com with your XR community key.Aquitaine wrote:Yes, I see it on Steam with a 30% discount, which is great.
But on the Oculus store, no discount (since how can it know I have Rebirth?)

This is actually not correct. Steam supports the Oculus Touch controllers natively through OpenVR. Even in its home environment. There is no reason why you cant include oculus touch support in the steam version, unless its because of an agreement with Oculus.Unbekanntes Feindschiff wrote:Yes, SteamVR does indeed support the Oculus VR Headset. We are looking into the possibility of providing the Oculus EXE also on Steam but are not sure yet if this is possible. We are using some not so standard APIs from Oculus (their Avatar SDK in particular) and have to check if there are technical or legal limitations. I will answer this question early next week so you guys can decide then where to buy the game.
Sorry for the delay...

If you go to your main profile page, scroll all the way to the bottom and there will be some boxes to enter registration codes, and a couple lines below that, a button to link a steam account to your egosoft profile. When you do that, your profiles will be linked and X Rebirth should appear as a linked game. However, if you try to view the registration code, it will just say "Game owned on Steam, no registration code available." for X Rebirth. I'm sure Egosoft can view that you purchased the game on steam, however.Gotschek wrote: Hi Bernd,
