X3AP 3.1a Freezes and needs Ctrl/Alt/Del - resolved (new graphics card and no glow)

Post by Avatar of darkness »

The same problem. <Issues only after installing 3.1a. AP]

Two infinite freezes with looping music in two days of gameplay after 3.1a installed, closed only with ctrl+alt+del.

No errors.

Both times SETA was used.

May I return previous patch 3.1 instead 3.1a? How?

Split from another thread as in-game freezes are not the same as CTDs, and the two hardware systems and OSs were not at all similar.

If Steam, have you verified the Steam X3TC and X3AP gamefile caches *separately* since the update to 3.1a?

Steam says that all the files have been successfully checked.

Are there any related errors listed in Event Viewer? (Be aware though that freezes may not generate such error messages). This CTD FAQ gives some advice on where to check.

Thanks, but unfortunately that is just the Windows generic hung program (permanent freeze) report and it does not help much to track down the problem.

Can you describe the relationship between your save and the in-game crash(es). Was it just before one happened or how else do you think it will help to demonstrate the issue? With that extra information I might be able to get a dev to take a look at the save.

One thing you can try in the meantime is to disable your Nvidia *sound* device and its driver in Control panel, Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices - right click on a sound device for an enable/disable pop-up menu). (I assume you are using the onboard RealTek sound chipset for game sound.)

Good luck.

First and second times I used SETA in War Sectors (some Argon and Terran M2 converged in battle), third time freeze was after entering the gates, but before entering the usual sector.

In this save I go throug East gates and then game freezes. Subsequent attempts did not lead to such result in this save.

Now I installed new a video card (gtx1070), and I need some time for testing, but unlikely it will change something.

Seems that new video card does not raise FPS in war sectors.

4*M1-2 + few M7 on opposite sides are fighting and fps falls below 24 because eyes may notice this.

I don't playing so much, but now I don't see such freeze lags like earlier, which resolved with Ctrl+Alt+Del. I think that the reason is switched off "glow" effect in ingame graphic settings.

Not the same type of crash, but post here (to start the new topic is too boring :) )

In this case game just stopped work and I have a crush report.

I noticed one thing - x3ap use only 1,5GB RAM, is it normally? How I can increase this value?

On long play sessions my vanilla X3AP can use up to 3.4 GB of my 16 GB RAM before it flushes the caches. So I don't think the game has an issue.

See if you have any sort of RAM limit allocated to exe files set up somewhere and also what are your pagefile settings?

"Page File: 2529MB used, 30113MB available" is the report in your DxDiag which does not indicate any particularly high pagefile usage.
