Installation issue?

When I bought X3 Ap a while ago, I just installed AP without first installing X3TC because I thought steam would handle this automatically. Now, when I think about it, none of the new ships appear in albion prelude at all. NPCs still pilot the same old ships from X3TC. Is this intentional?

Also, im going to get a new hdd soon, should I first install x3tc then ap? or just AP like I did before? Thanks.

What you shouldn't forget is that X3AP doesn't replace all the ships from the X3TC, just adds a few new ones. Therefore seeing the same ships from X3TC isn't that surprising. You can check and compare the hull values with those from X3TC though. These were increased for all ships.

When you install X3AP, X3TC will be installed as well. X3AP is an addon to X3TC, and as such uses files from the main X3TC installation. Without X3TC being installed first, X3AP wouldn't work at all. If you feel that something does not work as it should, it's a good idea to let Steam verify both games.

Sometimes with Steam if you install X3AP before or instead of installing X3TC, you will be able to play X3AP just fine but you may have issues if you try to play X3TC. That is because Steam does not always install every X3TC file with an X3AP install but it does at least load all the X3TC ones that X3AP needs.

Doing a verify for both games as X2 suggests will also fix X3TC for you (if there was indeed a problem) and it does not cost you anything more to have both Steam games in a playable state. So actually the order you install them in is not critical.
