Quick question, hopefully simple "yes" answer ;)

Post by EventHorizon »

One thing that is really starting to bug the living hell out of me is the constant "this is how you do it" help texts that pop up. For example, the scanning mode always pops up when I enter scanning mode.

I have been though all of the game options, and nothing seems to switch these off. So, have I missed an option or is there a mod to get rid of these unhelpful "help" texts?

Sadly, there is not - this was an annoying thorn in my side, too. To add permanent insult to injury, some of them are also recorded in the log! For instance, the long-range scan that you mention... I don't remember it always being like this - might be it was made this way in 4.0, perhaps? If so, I wonder whether it was deliberate or unwitting? Either way, it's daft - you'd think that AT THE VERY LEAST it would stop telling you that you can upgrade your scanner, once it's MAXED OUT! :headbang:

Since you have gone through the options, you no doubt have found the "expert" option to turn off mode messages - sadly, all it seems to do is turn off the "press space to disable mouse steer" type of message, but not the scanner mode one and the like.

Indeed, that option I did try and found it didn't do what I wanted :(

Oh well, guess I'll have to get used to being treated like an 8 year old by this game.

And to whoever "moved" this thread, can you please explain why? This is clearly a technical aspect of the game, and if this is indeed hard coded (as it appears to be) then it can be considered a bug - especially if v4.0 has introduced this new "feature".

I did not move it, but Technical Support is only to resolve Problems when you cannot play the Game on your Computer (doesnt Start, Crashes unique to you, Sound/Video Issues etc.) not for general Gameplay stuff which is the same for everyone.
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)

I'f you get a profitable, large, busy trade empire going you'll really love the 2 audio blips that each manager will make when sweeping their account.

LMAO when I wrapped up vanilla plot.. chilling out reading credits and listening to the tune and all of a sudden I hear a manager telling me about the small fortune they're going to move into my account ..and of course, "all done"

I'm about to sabotage the worst|best stations because of that alert being like priority #1 in the game -- and that the game control/UI goes into stasis on those video/audio blips.

I have indeed noticed that you loose control when you get a trade message - it got me killed during the first "hack station" plot mission.

I suspect I am really going to love those blips then
