X3 all versions have issues on Steam

Hi,
I hope someone can help me. I have had the X3 games via Steam and have played them all (over 450 hrs on Reunion) I have recently chnaged the hard drive on my Laptop (the same laptop I used to Use with no problem) I recently re downloaded te games but have come across a strange problem whenever I try to play a game ( Reunion, Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude) I can create a game or load a save game, but the issue occurs whenever I enter a menu I get the sound of a repeated keypress and you cannot choose any other option except the one at the top. Even pressing the key shortcut does nothing. My Laptop is an I5 with a Nvidia 765M (Driver 1331.75) with 16 gig of ram, running Windows 7 professional (64 bit)

Has anyone had this issue before and how was this resolved?
