Change folder name

Post by strude »

Hey there

I have a created a mod and been using it for some time. Figured it was time it made it's way to the workshop. On uploading, I got an error saying the folder name is too long (33 chars, 32 max  ). I don't have too much trouble changing the folder name for upload, however I (and possibly one other who did a quick test for me) have been using this since I started this play through.

Should I just upload from a different folder, or what problems can I expect to see in game if I change the folder name now? I can change the folder name, and the id in the context.xml, and there are no references to the folder structure in the mod. I shouldn't need to change any cue names. There is only the one file I created in the md folder and another file in the t folder. Will I also need to change the name of the xml file in the md folder to match the folder name?

nope, should be no problem. afaik only the content.xml is relevant if you only use md and t-files. mod foldername is relevant if a mod is modding your mod or if you are declaring own macros in index/macros.xml. I think you should not even need to change the mod name in the content.xml except if a long name here is also blocked by the workshoptool.

on another note: why not publish on eg nexus instead of workshop? we have some gog users who don't have that much of access to steam workshop. ultimately of course there is the tool to download from workshop, but still something to consider for releasing new mods :)

Thanks for the reply. I just played some then and didn't see any adverse affects, so I think I'm all good.

As for Nexus, I do post my mods there as well. They usually get less attention there, so I'm not as proactive on it. I really should get to it though.
