Random hangs/load freezes - fixed

Hi all,

I bought the game on Sunday (vanilla 4.0 HOL Complete Edition) and run it at Ultra details on a GTX970, i7-860 (3.4Ghz Hyperthreading), 12GB DDR3 with Win7 64bit.

Sorry, not at my PC currently, so can't get to the DXDIAG right now. Can provide that later.

It runs very well, but occasionally gets stuck for a few minutes. Screen frozen, background sound still active. It can happen for example when docking, when the first person mode is loaded, but it can also happen just flying around a zone.

After a few minutes it recovers, reloads the scene and continues as normal.

I checked CPU, RAM, VRAM utilization and I'm not hitting any bottlenecks. It does appear to be some kind of world-streaming related issue.

Is this maybe a known problem?

The simple answer is no, it's not. A [url=http://www.egosoft.com/support/faq/faq_answer_en.php?answer=610&version=8][b]DX[/b][b]D[/b]iag[/url] report would definitely be useful here, as would putting the game into (borderless) windowed mode and running Task Manager in front of it to see whether it's really the game that is pausing or whether something else on the PC is causing it. Just for good measure you should also run a File Verification for the game in the Steam client to make sure all the game files are actually present and correct.

Thanks for the super quick answer, will get you a DXDIAG tonight.

If you can tell me how to run borderless window I'll try that with the task manager.

I have a very streamlined and "clean" gaming machine, so there shouldn't be any background processes hogging the box, causing that interruption. Generally this box is well behaved and runs other demanding recent games with no hickups.

It's not Steam, but the GOG Version. Since I don't use Galaxy I can't verify the installation files any way I know...?

However, it does seem like a good guess that it hangs on accessing some files - I run it off a quite new 512GB Samsung Evo SSD, so disk speed should not be an issue... might try a reinstall.

Borderless windowed mode can be selected in the game's graphics options. I'm not a GOG expert but I would imagine you'd need to use Galaxy to verify the files for the GOG version. If you're not willing to use that then I'm not really sure how to help you check that the files are correct and complete.

Well, the beauty of (and reason for buying from) GOG is that it doesn't require any invasive client to run the game. So I'd not be very happy if I'm now forced to install Galaxy and manage my games trough that. I understand you are trying to help, but that kind of defeats the whole point of not using Steam.

What I can try is to reinstall and do a file verification from the installer (it checks the downloaded BIN before installing).

Edit:

I fixed it by installing Samsung Magician's "Rapid" mode. Seems that the SSD was going Idle for no reason? during load times. NOT a game problem, sorry for the efforts caused.
